DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB BASED SIM REGISTRATION SYSTEM IN MTN

ABSTRACT

This project explains the significance of online sim card registration, which has helped more effectively to the reduction of phone crime in Nigeria. The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has taken a radical approach to putting a halt to all criminal acts committed while using a mobile phone. The sim registration process has not only aided in the discovery of every illegal or criminal conduct committed by various individuals, but it has also assisted the nation (Nigeria) in determining the volume or quantity of people utilizing sim mobile phones. This approach has also assisted telecommunications operators or companies in determining the precise crime committed while using sim mobile phones. For example, the exact location, address, name, location, and even time of calls made by the individual will be determined. The Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) sparked a debate by challenging various communication operators to choose between national security and their business. This actually resulted in the sim card registration taking effect.

CHAPITRE ONE

1.0 INVESTIGATION

“SIM Card Registration System” is a system that the user uses to manage and save different SIM Card holders from various service providers. This project offers a highly honest method of preserving comprehensive details of any Card holders of any service providers and their details. This project was designed using detailed.net programming and a web application. The goal of this project is to handle all of the data of card holders, such as their address, phone number, pin code, SIM serial number, SIM card number, E-mail address, and so on, so that service providers can simply handle their consumers.

1.0 THE STUDY’S BACKGROUND

In accordance with Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) directives and as part of efforts to have a legitimate database and as through Sim card Subscribers in Nigeria, MTNN will be implementing the MTNN Sim Card Registration. The MTNN Sim Card Registration process is now in the process of collecting detailed information from all MTNN Nigeria subscribers.

This became necessary due to the rising frequency with which mobile phones are utilized in illicit actions around the country. This is supposed to be the primary source of identifying and verifying all MTNN clients. The sim card registration will allow MTNN to associate each sim card with the identification of the actual owner. Details will be collected throughout the sim card process.

The registration procedure is as follows:

Name of the subscriber

Address

a different phone number

Photograph the size of a business card

Thumbprints on both the left and right sides

index finger prints on the left and right

Personal key to unlock

In addition to the information provided above, the registration process will entail the client who want to register an MTNN sim card physically presenting in order for the photograph and biometric (finger print) to be captured. Registration stations will be implemented around the country, leveraging on specified MTN sim registration locations such as MTNN walk-in facilities, connect stores, designated post offices, and trade partners. When Nigerian authorities are fighting telecommunications crimes, telecommunications companies such as MTN, AIRTEL, GLOBACOM, ETISALAT, and others are required to register the details of their customers.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The SIM card registration process, which is done nationwide and within the country, has been so tedious that subscribers go to the registration points and line up in an endless line waiting for their turn; some do not get the opportunity to do so that same day and will have to return the next day to join the queue again. This has been a problem because some of these subscribers are businessmen who have closed their shops because they want to re-validate their SIM cards due to the fact that some of the subscribers have already been disconnected from the network.

1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The MTNN sim card registration process has been designed for all new and existing users on the MTNN Network, both prepaid and postpaid, with the goal of ensuring that any illegal activity involving the use of a telephone is monitored. It also aids in the following areas.

In accordance with NCC rules, we recorded the information of all new clients on the network.

Obtain customer information for all MTN Nigeria customers.

. Assist in the tracing down of any illicit calls made by subscribers (customers).

1.4 THE STUDY’S OBJECTIVE

This research investigates the processes of basic SIM card registration via the web as a means of authenticating users’ data to the SIM. This research is also for the MTN Nigeria telecommunications network.

1.5 THE STUDY’S LIMITATION

Inaccessibility to some papers as a result of security restrictions put by management on some of the organization’s documents. It was also not able to conduct a thorough examination of these materials, which would have aided in the development of the project work.

Time was a major constraint for this write-up; there wasn’t enough time to study the intricacies of the many fields of the organization’s information department, and the textbook required for this write-up was not available in the institution library.

This study will not go at other portions of the sim registration in depth except for the only part explained MTNN sim registration. It does not explain the other section of telecom operators but rather the other section aforementioned.

1.6 THE STUDY’S SIGNIFICANCE

The study gave birth to a new strategic approach to registration.

This development is important for MTN communication since it will facilitate SIM registration and revalidation. This research effort will also be used as a reference study guide for fellow researchers, academic students, and others.

1.7 DEFINITION OF THE TERM

SIM: A subscriber identity module (SIM) card is a smart card that is put into a cell phone and contains personal information such as the subscriber’s personal identity number or stored phone numbers.

SUBSCRIBER: – A person or company who buys goods and services from another person or organization.

DATABASE: A database is any collection of data that has been structured for storage in a computer memory and is intended for easy access by authorized users. The data could be text, numbers, or encoded pictures.

NCC: Nigeria communication commission, they brought out by assisting in the conduct and maintenance of sanctity on Nigerian telecom providers.

PIN NUMBER: This is a personal identity number that is supplied for subscribers who utilize the subscriber’s identity module (SIM) for private use.

PUK NUMBER: This is a personal unblocking key that is provided by telecom operators to subscribers in the sector.

This work is divided into five chapters and appendices, which are as follows:

CHAPTER ONE: This section contains an introduction to the work as well as a presentation of the overall concept of this research work, such as the purpose of the study, a description of the research field of coverage limitation, and a definition of words.
