Effect Of Management Information System In Service Delivery In Academic Institutions

Chapter One

Preface

Background of the Study

Services represent substantial part of business affair and investments. In furnishing these services, Management Information System( MIS) is employed to grease the services, which represents a substantial portion of commercial spending. The ideal of similar investments is to produce business value. But in order for any investment to have a positive impact on business value, fresh earnings need to be created or overall costs reduced. therefore, when assessing investments in services that have implicit benefactions to the enhancement of business performance, the relations of costs among the colorful business processes and conditioning need to be considered( Roztocki and Weistroffer, 2008). Investment in information technology can have dramatic goods on both the internal and external operations of a business association as well as academic institutions. Internally, bettered IT systems can enhance and strengthen organizational structure and capacity by adding workers ’ effectiveness; service collaboration; information sharing between departments, fiscal record keeping and shadowing of an association’s product and impact. Externally, information technology results can unnaturally transfigure business association service delivery( Allison, 2010).

Statement of the Problem

The problem of the study lies in the fact that the University of Uyo has not accommodated the change towards the use of technology in performing its functions and operations; it rather remained in the same position down from progress and excellence, due to the intensification of competition between private and public associations as a result of the multifariousness and diversity of services and associations that give similar services on one hand, and the high position of their requirements and prospects and solicitations, and different norms of judgment of the quality of services that they consume the other hand. The use of technology has numerous positive and effective advantages that are reflected on the association itself similar as technological development, competition, the desire to ameliorate work and others, which leaves colorful issues and results on the association, both at the position of work and the services handed. So the problem of the study is illustrated by the lack of mindfulness and knowledge of the impact of using of operation information systems technology and quality on the services handed by the University of Uyo in AkwaIbom State, Nigeria.

Objects of the Study

The main ideal of this paper is to estimate the effect of operation information system on service delivery in academic institutions in Nigeria. The study also tries to probe how internet installation has contributed to online commerce within the university community, and incipiently, it examines the inhibiting factors of operation information system development.

Exploration Questions

1. What’s the effect of operation information system on service delivery in academic institutions in Nigeria?

2. How has internet installation contributed to online commerce within the university community?

3. What are inhibiting factors of operation information system development?

Exploration Hypotheses

Ho Management information system has no significant effect on service delivery in academic institutions in Nigeria.

Hi operation information system has no significant effect on service delivery in academic institutions in Nigeria.

Significance of the Study

University directors around the world are expanding their investment in information technology( IT), specifically the web technology and Internet in carrying out conditioning similar as tutoring, pupil enrollment and test processing( Yang, 2008; Ting, 2005; Chen & Paul, 2003; Huang et al, 2004). Likewise, speakers and scholars are using the Internet as medium of communication. speakers are being requested to make their tutoring accoutrements available online on institution’s websites for scholars ’ availability. scholars are encouraged to communicate with preceptors, or with one another, via dispatch( Chenug and Huang, 2005). thus, the impact of operation information system on service delivery and business value is an important issue for experimenters, resource directors and other stakeholders. operation information system and service delivery include productivity improvement, profitability enhancement, bettered work relations, competitive advantage and effective use of coffers at both intermediate position and organizational position( Prasad 2008; Melville etal., 2004; Devaraj 2003; and Kohli 2003).

While institutions invest mainly in IT coffers both in developing and developed countries, important attention has not been given to the understanding of how IT creates value in business in developing countries. numerous of the findings from developed countries have a limited value to stakeholders in developing countries( Prasad 2008). The content of the nets of IT investments in the developing countries is an important issue for business directors and academics experimenters. It has been observed that veritably little exploration is reported about the impact of IT investments on business value and service delivery in associations( Roztocki etal., 2004). An understanding of the donation of IT investments to business value and service delivery in developing countries will give investors further confidence and direction in their IT investments( Prasad 2008).

Compass/ Limitations of the Study

The study used University of Uyo as a case study. The study identifies the impact of operation information system on academic and executive conditioning similar as lecture delivery and examination processing.

Limitations of study

1. Financial constraint-inadequate fund tends to stymie the effectiveness of the experimenter in sourcing for the applicable accoutrements , literature or information and in the process of data collection( internet, questionnaire and interview).

2. Time constraint- The experimenter will contemporaneously engage in this study with other academic work. This accordingly will cut down on the time devoted for the exploration work.

Description of Terms
