Methodology

This work is qualitative and is women around the textbook The Trials by Julie Okoh’s as the primary source. Other source included journals papers and books.

Theoretical Background

The proposition on which this work is grounded is the feminist proposition of knowledge review.

According to AnnB. Dobie( a pen and philosopher the author of proposition into practice) the feminist movement stretches back into the ninetieth century the feminist lenses began to develop only in the early 1960’s.

Feminism Encyclopedia Americana 1920’s defines feminism as a collection of ideas and movement aimed at defining, establishing and defending equal political, profitable and social right of women and men. This includes seeking to establish equal occasion for women in education and career( Wikipedia “ feminism ” collier new Encyclopedia 1921)

Feminism thus is an ideological movement that aims at championing the profitable, social and political equivalency of men and women in the society. thus if pouts at oppression of women by men.

Feminism is a conception that thrives to give recognition to women’s capability and right to determine and change a new society. It demands that women shouldn’t be judged by their coitus. It’s geared towards correcting the situation in the society in which a women can not hold certain positions and jobs or have a say-so in the affairs of the state because of her gender.

According to Judith Burdick, feminism is an outright and unequivocal rejection of the life style created by strong coercive morals. She further state that

“ That advocacy of the headway of women’s right interest and equivalency with men in social, political and profitable sphere( 588). Feminism indeed advocates that a women has the right and freedom from manly domination and thus can decide her own fortune. This conception sees the women as being suitable to makes her own decision knowing what’s good for her as well as what’s bad. This movement also held that women should break new grand and let herself be tromped upon by men.

Book encyclopedia.( vol ii) defines feminism as

“ That belief that women should have profitable political and social right equivalency with men. The movement could also be called women’s Emancipation or women’s movement ”( 46). Feminism is out to fortune the conception, still predicated in religious, profitable or natural superiority over women, Brudwick also states that feminism.

“ Is a cerebral revaluation grounded on women’s asseveration that they’ve introductory right to make choices and be judge as individualities ”. likewise, the combined trouble by women to end their plod was evidence to the world that their donation to the societal development would be Barren if they’re socially, politically and economically deprived in any form. thus, for peace and stability to reign thewy desire to be traipsed like their manly counterpart. This cover and demand laid the foundation for feminism. It focuses slip eradicatsing gender inequality and promoting women right, interest and issues in the society.

Feminism began with the coming of numerous wollstone craft’s A exculpation of the right of women. In the textbook she state how “ women are stripped of virtue that should cloth humanity also are decked with artificial graces that enable them exercise a short lived despotism ”( 142) from that statement it’s maintainable to state that a women’s essential worth sterms from her common humanity and doesn’t depend on any thing differently

In Nigeria, the first feminist movement or idea dates back to the Aba women Roit( 1926) which was an event fashioned towards the emaicipation of women. piecemeal from the event in Nigeria we also have the Beijing women conference in demitasse which focuses on the plight of women and the action demanded to ameliorate their let. The struggle to end demarcation of relations overusing and manly domination shouldn’t be considered a one- man race, rather, it calls for a group struggle. The man reigns in the have while women are stripped of their quality and made object of men’s lust and pleasure. Hence feminism grew to destroy these vices in the society. But Africa is yet to witness radical feminism, hence Alice Waker in the textbook The Nature of Black Feminism state that

“ The black feminism is committed to the survival and wholeness of the entire people manly and womanish ”( 231)

Black feminism is commited to the survival of all and not a one- sided or selfish affair.

According to Okey Okwechine “ Equality to right and occasion for both men and women for a healthy society ”( 209). This simply means that for a society to progress, there should be equal support for all irrespective of their coitus.

The end and compass of feminism movement is divided into two part, which we all the introductory common pretensions women have irrespective of race, class and culture. The others varies from country to country because of race, class and culture

At first, feminist movement concentrated con gaining legal equivalency especially the right to bounce in 1839, women in Zealand were the first6 to advocate and win this right followed by women in Australia and other European countries and also United State. During the time 1900’s a new concern for profitable and social equivalency arose and revived the movement

Feminist group fought to end education and job demarcation against women. A large number of women went into professions like law, drug, politics, business and other manly dominated field

Feminist movement sought to capsize laws and practice that apply superiority of men over women and in ferity status of women by demarcation in similar matters relating to coitus and child bearing. In other words, feminist worked for wider vacuity of birth control information and legalized revocation in same countries. They strived to change societal belif that women are weak, unresistant and dependent individualities; and that women are less rate and further emotional than men also that women live to please men.

In corridor of Africa feminist – movement arte geared towards were introductory places similar as junking of high bridegroom price preference of manly children to womanish children, maltreatment of widows amongst others.

Another end of the positivist is over- liftment of women image and a demonstration of the need to be displeased with their traditional places of neing subordinated to manly domination, and that women can share inversely with men in every sphere of mortal trials. Also to give every women to realize their implicit

According to Ann B Dobie in her book proposition into Practice femimist review can be studied in three different perspective into several lapping approaches which are study of defenses, study of womanish power and study of womanish experience

In the study of difference, feminist critics who are interested in determining the difference in manly and womanish jotting work from supposition that gender determine everything including value system and language. The conception of womanish difference has redounded in an supposition of womanish inferiority critical on this in the jotting of men and women considers question like

Has the pen chosen to write in kidney typical of joker of womanish pens of that time or period?

Do you consider the content of the piece typical or atypical the voice sound specific of a manly or womanish pen? Is it particular or impersonal, private or objective implicit of unequivocal?

In answering the below question in relation to the primary textbook The Trials by Julie Okoh’s it’s seen that the kidney of the textbook is drama, veritably short and terse which is typical of the kidney of the 21st century period of Nigerian pens.

The content of the textbook is typical of a womanish pen because it dwells on the important of womanish commission.

The voice is characteristic of a womanish pen because it promoter( Ibiso) is womanish it conditioning for womanish commission and equal right of men and women to profitable, social and political right This station is seen in Ibiso who provides for her family in the face of profitable difficulty. The tone of the textbook is general and impersonal because it isn’t confined to Africa but the whole world. The textbook The Trials is objective because it isn’t grounded on the particular passions of the playwright

Feminist critics studying power generally complain of imbalance of power between relations. They assume that the profitable system is at the root of inequitable relationship and the attack both profitable and social exploitation of women. They argue that women are oppressed of women. They argue that women are oppressed by a group that purposely hold also down through its testaments. Michele Barrett, who writes from a maxist poinit of view, argues that the way the family and ménage are organized is related to division of labor in the society. The related to division of labour in the society. The system of education and the places men and women play in the culture. To search for the study of power in a textbook, the following questions according to AnnB. Dobie should be considered

When do you find cimbalannce of power among the characters?

Who are the important bones and who are the helpless? Are the ultimate women or nonage?

What division of labour live between men and women in the textbook?

Does the textbook repel a social order that denies equal treatment to all or does it accept it?
