INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
With the introduction of sports betting firms in recent years, the love for sport has taken on a new dimension, most likely as a way to establish a network of sports enthusiasts and supporters. Sport betting is the activity of forecasting and predicting the outcome of sporting events or sports in exchange for a monetary stake or reward. Nowadays, online betting is increasingly popular among young people aged 15 to 40, and even older individuals participate in it. The main reason for this is that it provides quick and simple income. However, the fact remains that online gambling is gambling. It is not a job, but rather a means of destroying young people’s lives and futures. Online betting is a new concept. Many young people have been engrossed in the game to the cost of their future prospects. It’s also shocking how many young secondary school students and recent graduates are engaging in this activity. According to statistics, 70% of Nigerian youngsters participate in sports betting. This means that a larger proportion of young people are becoming gamblers. There is currently no legislation governing the activity, nor is there any government policy against it. However, the reality is that our youth’s lives and futures are on the line. A substantial percentage of the youngsters in this game come from low-income families and are subjected to negative social pressures.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The fact that sport betting provides quick and easy money does not excuse the reality that young people who participate in the game are gamblers who live on hope. They are usually destitute and pitiful people. When supporters don’t win at sports betting, it often escalates to anger and violence. This generation of young people has a strong belief that they will one day become millionaires. This is nothing more than a fantasy that will only lead to mental anguish, insanity, and suicide. When you lose a bet, you’ll feel depressed, frustrated, and angry. The game is quickly eroding the qualities of a true Nigerian youth, who are full of vitality, dedication, and inner strength to succeed, and changing them into lethargy. Sport betting causes family strife. Nigeria’s ETimes (2017). It suffocates one’s ambitions, creativity, and ingenuity. Many outstanding people have succeeded in life, such as Microsoft’s Bill Gates. Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, as well as Dangote and others, were not gamblers. Many young people have been duped into believing that betting is a viable option. The study’s problem is to look into the effects of sports betting on Nigerian youngsters. A case study of selected Warri youngsters.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The primary goal of the study is to look into the influence of sports betting on Nigerian youngsters. A case study of selected youngsters in Warri, with the following precise objectives:
To assess the reasons underlying the rise in sports betting among Nigerian teenagers.
The goal of this study was to investigate the prevalence of sports betting among Nigerian youths.
To find out how sports betting affects Nigerian youths.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
i. What are the reasons behind the rise in sports betting among Nigerian teenagers?
ii. How popular is sports betting among Nigerian teenagers?
iii. What impact does sports betting have on Nigerian youths?
RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS
Ho1: Sports betting has no substantial impact on Nigerian youngsters.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this study is to conduct an evaluation to identify the relevance and impact of sport betting in Nigeria with the goal of proposing a solution to the problem.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study aims to assess the impact of sports betting on Nigerian youths. A case study of selected Warri youngsters.
LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The research was hampered by logistical and geographical constraints.

Culture is the sum of a society’s knowledge, beliefs, arts, morality, conventions, laws, and other capabilities acquired via education and passed down from generation to generation.
DEFINITION OF WESTERN CULTURE
Western culture encompasses the social norms, beliefs, rituals, and ethical principles that are associated with European countries and nations. Apparently, the colonial masters of the time, the British, America, and others had an influence in Nigeria. As a result, the entrance of Christian influence in Nigeria over the Nigerian traditional cultural system aided the development of western culture. This impact pervades all aspects of life, including the institution of marriage.
