Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

It is essential for the laws to raise the standard of the ruled in every culture in which we live. The system must rely on a consistent two-way flow of information between the government and the nation’s citizens. Subsequent administrations, whether military or civilian, have introduced various programs aimed at raising the standard of living in rural or community areas, which are home to the majority of Nigeria’s population.

No nation can develop without consciously pursuing the development of its community, but such development or transformation is only possible when the community’s population is involved in activities focused on both their own development and the development of the country, as directed by the government.

It is impossible to overstate the importance of information in the creation of policy. This is due to the fact that a well-coordinated information transmission system causes a profound shift in society. There is no denying that communication has existed for as long as man has. When Oputa J.S.C. stated on September 20, 1993 that “There is no doubt the mass media, the press, the radio and all these have a tremendous influence on our behavior, modern man will readily agree that many of his attitudes, judgments, and stance on various social or political issue are heavily influenced or even shaped by his exposure to ideas and suggestions, feed in him by the mass media,” he was expressing his agreement with this through the effectiveness of communication.

The radio programs use the alteration of people’s everyday lives to accomplish the aforementioned aim. The issues and goals of the society they serve must be reflected in the programs.

Additionally, because “we see the mass media of communication as possessing that magical awareness, creating innovative, knowledge imparting empathy raising, knowledge and skill multiplying, we see the programs that are intended to enhance the social awareness of the individual and faster national unity, cultural integration, must also make the individual an.

It is a well-known truth that radio aims to educate, inspire, inform, and entertain the public while also mobilizing them for growth and cultivating a responsible view on local and societal issues. Radio is seen as a formidable communication medium with the capacity to improve human condition and foster the growth of a sustainable society. It appeals to both the hearing and seeing senses. It encourages transparency, openness, and accountability, all of which are necessary for social efficacy as well as economic and political growth. The opposite is also true; radio has been described as a “theatre of the mind where imagination is activated by second voice and sound effect.” Radio is the dominant mass communication medium for a broader segment of the population. People in communal areas can listen to radio broadcasts on their sets. When compared to other mass communication mediums, it is relatively inexpensive, portable, and timely.

This work seeks to determine the impact of Caritas Radio 98.7fm in light of the above.

1.2. Research Problem Statement

This study explores the contributions of radio to the growth of local agriculture. The purpose is to analyze the widely held misconception that radio is not utilized to spread development and social change programs but merely to function as a vehicle for social change. In addition to the work’s potential great significance, educators, students, and institutions of higher learning who might want to start a similar research project should consider it.

As a result, it will act as a source of information for future research projects.

1.7. Term Definitions

The terms’ operational definitions were as follows:

The term “community” describes a vast or small geographic area with a low population density and a lack of infrastructure facilities like adequate roads, electricity, and pipe-borne water. Due to their physical and financial hardships, frailty, and the way some individuals in the hierarchy plan their lives, they may feel lonely.

In regards to his social, political, and economic well-being, a community has little to no influence.

Community radio is a type of radio service that focuses on a particular region’s interests and plays music that is popular among local listeners but frequently ignored by commercial radio. It can also refer to a small radio station where members of the community can tune in to learn, be informed, entertained, and motivated.

Developments in agriculture: This will raise the standard of living for farmers and support them longer. Agriculture has always required constant information because it is a field that uses a lot of expertise.

Agriculture has benefited a variety of industries, including farmers, fishers, and traders. During the cropping season, specialized guidance is provided on the whole range of crops being farmed locally at intervals coordinated with the various stages of land preparation.

Development: The idea of integrated development is now widely accepted, however different people have varied meanings attached to the phrase itself.

Development is a planned, widely-participated process that aims to produce profound socio-political change in the economy, technology, ecology, and overall culture of the nation so that the majority of its citizens can advance morally and materially under the conditions of generalized equality, dignity, justice, and liberty.
