PROBLEMS, PROSPECTS AND GROWTH OF NIGERIA CHEQUEING SYSTEM

Abstract

The issue of debt collection from commercial banks in Nigeria is as old as the existence of commercial banks in Nigeria. The problem has hit Nigeria’s economic development hard and further crippled Nigeria’s commercial banks. The impact of commercial bank loan collection problems in Nigeria can be both positive and negative. In the positive case, the financial subsector of the economy has room for development, but the situation is reversed. The impact of debt collection issues is mostly negative and this downside is central to our concerns. The aftermath of this issue is a predicament for Nigeria’s commercial banks. In relation to this topic, it is pertinent to consider the issue of debt collection in commercial banks in Nigeria. The impact on the financial sub-sector of the economy and proposals for possible measures to mitigate this problem in order to create room for development and growth in the financial sub-sector of the economy.
