STATISTICAL ANALYSIS ON FERTILITY AND MORTALITY RATE

ABSTRACT
The goal of this project is to investigate the fertility and mortality rates in Osogbo Local Government. The study employed statistical methods such as moving average, least squares, and demographic analysis. The analysis results show that there is a link between fertility and mortality. It is also the ability to predict an increase. As a result, it is suggested that the government provide more medical facilities for easy delivery.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1       INTRODUCTION

Statistics is used in almost every aspect of human life, including statistical analysis and inference. Formally dealing only with state affairs, which accounts for its name statistics.

Statistics now have an impact on manufacturing companies, agricultural sectors, banks, business communication, economics, education, political science, psychology, sociology, and a variety of other fields. As a result, it is a body of scientific method and theory for gathering, organizing, presenting, and analyzing data, as well as drawing valid conclusions and making sound decisions. The application can be found in any numerical form discipline.

Furthermore, this project is to explain and to analyze more on fertility and mortality rate of people in “OSOGBO LOCAL GOVERNMENT”. This project will last four fiscal years. Data is being collected at LAUTECH TEACHING HOSPITAL OSOGBO from 2006 to 2009. Also, the total number of fertility and mortality rate would be computed, and this information would be used for the actualization of facts.

1.2       HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

LAUTECH TEACHING HOSPITAL is jointly owned by the governments of Osun and Oyo. The hospital is located in the Idi-seke neighborhood of Osogbo Local Government. LAUTECH Teaching Hospital is equipped to a level that no other hospital in the state can match. LAUTECH Teaching Hospital employs a large number of professional doctors as well as highly trained and efficient nurses.

1.3       AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

– Determine whether the number of life births (fertility) in Osogbo Local Government exceeds the number of deaths (Mortality).

– To be able to study the future occurrence of fertility and mortality rates using the least square method.

– Using the moving average method, calculate the trend value of fertility and mortality rates.

1.4       TYPES OF STATISTICS

Statistics are classified into two types:

i. Statistics that are descriptive

ii. Statistics for making inferences

The research in descriptive statistics includes information on every member of the population as well as descriptions of population characteristics such as total, average, Means, or more (Population Parameters). However, in Inferential Statistics, the researcher has information on a subset of the population (sample). The sample’s mean, mode, and standard deviation are collected and are referred to as statistics.

1.5       USES OF STATISTICS

Statistics are useful in every aspect of human endeavor. We can use statistics knowledge to determine the number of employed people in a country, to identify market trends, and to make any possible request in any business venture. In fact, statistics are applicable to every aspect of our daily lives.

1.5.1   TYPES OF STATISTICAL DATA

Data is defined as information collected for a specific purpose.

The topic of study, on which inquiries are to be made, determines the types of data to be collected in any survey.

1.5.2   PRIMARY DATA

Primary data is defined as information gathered or drawn from the original source for a specific purpose for which it will be useful. These types of data are always accurate and reliable when collected using the following methods:

i. Send a questionnaire by mail

ii. An interview over the phone

iii. An in-person interview

iv. Personal observation

v. Try something new.

1.5.3   SECONDARY DATA

This is data collected for a purpose other than what it was intended for. It is secondhand data gathered for a specific purpose directly from statistical inquiries in which they were used. It has the advantage of saving both time and money.

1.6       POSSIBLE LIMITATION TO THE USE OF DATA

The collected data is secondary data, and it is subject to some difficulties, limiting the extent to which it can be used in dealing with secondary data.

As a result, any suggestion or recommendation made as a result of the analysis is not limited to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.
