Stock Acquisition In Library

 

Abstract

This exploration work deals with stock accession with a reference to Alex Ekwueme Library, Federal polytechnic, Oko.

Acquisition is a means by which books and non book accoutrements are collected in a library. The librarian glossary( 2001) defined accession as a process of acquiring or the department concerned with acquiring for the library. In chapter one of this exploration study, there are problems militating against stock accession in Alex Ekwueme library similar as lack of fund to make up the library stock, there’s a problem of staffing and inadequacy of reading space and cabinetwork.

Chapter two of this exploration study deals with literature review which discusses the following headlines accession, accession policy, library accoutrements stocks, types of library stocks, styles of accession, problems of stock accession and selection tools. Chapter three of this exploration study is exploration methodology which the exploration espoused check exploration/ designs because check deals with interview and questionnaires.

Chapter four of this exploration study discusses donation and analysis of data which were drawn and gathered from the exploration questions as follows

i. What are colorful styles of acquiring library accoutrements at Alex Ekwueme library?

ii. Are there procedures of book accession in the library

iii. What are the requirements for stock accession in academic libraries?

iv. What types of accoutrements are to be acquired in the library?

Grounded on the findings, the experimenter indicated that the main reason for stock accession is for dispersion of information.

Chapter five deals with summary, conclusion, recommendation and suggestion for farther study. The experimenter recommends that the institution operation shouldn’t depend on government entitlement alone but should try to allocate further finances for the accession of library stocks accoutrements .
