SUITABLE TECHNIQUES FOR IMPROVING THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF ICT IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS FROM THE OPINIONS OF BUSINESS EDUCATORS

Abstract

ICT [information and communication technology]] is essential to the growth of any country. It has served as a tool for accomplishing advancement in social, economic, scientific, and technological fields (Adedeji, 2010). ICT has had a significant impact on education, particularly on teaching, learning, and research. Information and communication technology (ICT) applications are prioritized throughout all levels of schooling, not just in commercial organizations and the industrial sector (Allen, 2011). Most people agree that computers and other information and communication technology make learning considerably easier.Information and communication technology (ICT) refers to the application of tools and software to more easily access, retrieve, convert, store, organize, alter, and present data and information [Gray and Blads, 2005]. Information technology (IT) and information and communication technology (ICT) are terms that can be used interchangeably. Information can be thought of as a “concept” created in the human mind, whereas communication is the act of moving that information from its original source to the location where it is required in order to affect the recipient’s behavior.ICT refers to the idea that information and communication are shifting away from traditional verbal and print media and toward more contemporary electronic technologies. Because of this, Badru (2002) defined “ICT” as the science and practice of using computers to process, store, and send information. The employment of hardware and software to improve communication was further characterized by the author as communication technology. In other words, the roles that information technology and communication technology play are overlapping.
