In Nigeria, Christianity has infiltrated practically every aspect of life. A comprehensive examination of the urhobo people’s religious history reveals that Christianity has infiltrated both urban and rural sections of the urhobo civilization.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the role of Christianity in the urhobo nation’s growth. A brief introduction to the urhobo people’s lifestyle previous to the arrival of Christianity will also be given for a better understanding of the project.

Christianity is a religious and cultural product of the Jewish people. It was given to the Roman Empire by the Jews, and it spread throughout the world from there. Since its inception, Christianity, frequently referred to as the most pervasive religion, has found its way into practically every society. The command issued to the disciples and apostles of this faith by its founders, Jesus Christ, can be credited with the religion’s expansion (Matt 28:19:20).

This study aims to determine the significance of this Jewish seed—Christianity—to the Urhobo people and nation in Nigeria’s southern region. The spread of Christianity in Urhoboland has accelerated in recent years. What is the source of this epidemic and what can be done to stop it?

The following are the study’s goals and objectives:

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate the impact of Christianity on the Urhobo people and culture, as well as its role in the development of the Urhobo nation.

To raise awareness, consciousness, and understanding of the Urhobo personality, as well as the significance of Christianity within the Urhobo nation.

To elicit a lively discussion about a crucial aspect of Urhobo history and culture, which some researchers believe is in jeopardy.

There are five chapters in this work. The first chapter gives a broad background study by outlining the objectives, methods, and definitions of words. The Urhobo nation’s historical origins and organizational lifestyle are discussed in Chapter 2. The third chapter focuses on the arrival and spread of Christianity, as well as the Urhobo traditional environment prior to Christianity. The fourth chapter examines the Christian religion’s contributions to the Urhobo people.

Finally, evaluations, recommendations, and the conclusion are discussed in Chapter 5.

Urhoboland is the only place where the work may be done. The twenty-two geopolitical units or components that make up the Urhobo nation are referred to as urhoboland. It is limited to the interactions and relationships between the Urhobo people and Christian missions, including how the Urhobo people’s religion affects Christianity and how Christianity affects their dependence and interdependence, among other things, though references to other societies and religions will be made.

The majority of the information for this study came from published publications and internet resources. There will be a few references to the sacred scripture of the religion in issue. The study also includes interviews done during the research process. Textbooks will be used as primary sources, while interviews will be used as secondary sources.

To gain a better grasp of this research, it is vital to define a few crucial words and concepts. These are some of the main terms and concepts:

1.2.1CHRISTIANITY: Christianity is a religion founded on or centered on Jesus Christ’s teachings. What Christianity is all about is:

1. A person – Jesus Christ, the Christian founder.

2. A people – which God has created on this planet.

3. A way of life – given by God to his people1.

1.2.2DEVELOPMENT: The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines development as “progressive growth.” It’s also a new condition of something that’s going to have a long-term impact on what happens. It entails increasing economic growth and a higher level of living.
