Introduction

1.1 Introduction To The Study

The nurturing and upbringing of children by their parents is a fact in society, however raising children alone has become a technique that is becoming more common in contemporary culture. The upbringing of a kid should be the responsibility of the traditional parent, and single parenting is a touchy matter. The notion of the society that a well-cultured and responsible child must be from a traditional family is not under question in this material, which discusses the upbringing of a child by a single parent under the possible circumstances and problems that raising a child entails. This is because, like children from traditional homes, children raised or brought up by a single parent may grow up to be well-educated and responsible members of society in their own right (Yackley, 2012).

The number of children being raised by single parents has dramatically increased recently. The results of a recent study survey 5 in the USA demonstrate that single parent rearing of children has replaced traditional upbringing of children by a total of 56%. Single parent families are a rising trend in modern culture, yet they face obstacles and hardships as well as having too many obligations to take care of. However, compared to single parenting, traditional parent upbringing of children will produce greater results. Due to the fact that single parents’ care is not always sufficient to satisfy a child’s requirements and wants, children raised by single parents may have fewer chances to become what they really want to be in life (Uwubamwen, 2012).

1.2 Statement of the problem:

The primary challenge of this study is to carefully consider the potential impact of single parenting on children in the Ika Local Government Area. The issue is with single parent families that face challenges in one form or another, such as the issue of a child raised by a single parent who grows up to be unproductive and useless to society as a result of the insufficient care the child never received from the single parent. The decline in traditional child rearing of children in the Ika Local Government Area is the problem, it is established. The study’s foundation was a survey of this issue.

1.3 Objectives Of The Study

The following objectives drove the research:

1. To identify the factors that lead to single parenting and child upbringing

2. To reaffirm the praised practice of raising children by a single parent in the Ika Local Government Area.

3. To determine the impacts of child upbringing by a single parent in order to be able to provide solutions to lessen kid rearing by a single parent.

1.5 Questions For Research

The following research questions are suggested as a framework for this investigation, taking into account the aforementioned goal of the study.

a. Are there any notable disparities between students with a single parent and their peers?

b. Is there a difference between students raised by their fathers and mothers and those raised by single parents in terms of their academic performance?

c. Are the children of single parents subject to educational restrictions?

d. To what extent may the favorable effects of a traditional parent upbringing in the Ika Local Government Area be contrasted with the unfavorable effects of a single parent upbringing in the Oredo Local Government Area?

1.6 The Study’s Significance

There are many insights that will be gained from this research because it (the study) will clarify how single parents deal with having the sole responsibility of raising children to be adults and responsible children, like those in traditional homes. Parenting is quite difficult.

It will highlight the difficulties of being a single parent parent. It will highlight the advantages and successful outcomes for kids raised in single-parent households.

It will discuss parenting styles and how they relate to single parenting. It will detail single parents’ experiences raising their kids and how they might inspire others in a similar circumstance.

It will act as a working tool for both traditional and single parents to learn how to deal with issues related to raising a child.

1.7 Aim/limitation Of The Study

However, because this study is limited to the selected residents of the Ekae Community in the Ika Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, it cannot examine all the chosen persons in the Ika Local Government Area as a whole.
