The Effect Of Teaching And Learning Environment On The Academic Performance Of The Pupils In Selected Primary School

Abstract

“The Effect of Teaching and Learning Environment on the Academic Performance of the Pupils in Selected Primary Schools of Odeda Local Government” is the focus of this study project. The phrase “academic environment” refers to the entire setting in which students are found. In light of this, the study aims to pinpoint the ideal and agreeable conditions for teaching and learning that will help primary school students in Odeda Local Government reach their academic potential. To do this, the researcher conducted a study to identify the teaching and learning environments that may affect students’ academic performance, including their homes, schools, religious institutions, peer groups, communities, social clubs, and their surroundings.

Introduction

1.1 Background of the study

The home, school, church, mosque, social clubs, peer group, and general society make up a student’s teaching and learning environment.

When the teaching and learning environment is accepting, supportive, challenging, and pleasant, students learn more effectively.

The environment of instruction and learning gives students the conditions they need to grow intellectually, physically, and personally.

In light of this research, a few chosen elementary schools in the Odeda Local Government are used as a case study that significantly impacts the academic performance of the students in the Osiele townships. The attitude of the parent and teacher, as demonstrated by how they carry out their obligations, affects the quality of education. Academic performance of students in both internal and external exams has been utilized over time to evaluate the quality of a teacher’s instruction.

Ajao (2001). Because the teacher is ultimately responsible for putting policy into action and principles based on practice during interactions with the students, it has been demonstrated that teachers have a significant impact on students’ academic achievement and also play a social role in education attainment.

Afe (2001) Teachers are essential to the teaching and learning environments.

It makes sense that an effective teacher has been defined as one who achieves the required results while doing his or her duties as a teacher, according to Uchefuna (2001).

For kids to succeed academically, they must have confidence in their ability to learn and that what they are learning will benefit them personally as well as society at large.

Students must therefore be able to reach this goal in a supportive learning environment. There are two learning environments: the home and the school. These students’ parents or guardians are in charge of creating a home environment that will support good learning. for their charge(s). The majority of students struggle to achieve distinction on their tests, and so do the school administration.

In order to develop methods, a series of studies have been launched in response to students’ subpar academic performance. These studies aim to identify the aspects in the learning environment that may contribute to this problem. Many of those research have taken into account the learning variables from the standpoint of the home or the classroom.

Therefore, the primary goal of the study is to determine how the teaching and learning environment affects students’ academic performance in a particular primary school in Ogun State’s Odeda local government region.

1.2 Statement of the problem:

In a rural region, it is rare to find a primary school with a typical environment and setting that promotes proper learning and teaching.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain and clarify the degree to which different teaching and learning environments have impacted the academic performance of primary school students.

1.3 Objective Of The Study

Finding out how the teaching and learning environment affects the academic performance of students in a chosen primary school in the Odeda Local Government area of Ogun State is the main goal of this project investigation.

to investigate how the teaching and learning environment affects students’ academic performance in Odeda Local Government both before and after the instruction has begun in various schools there.

to find out how the residents of Odeda Local Government have benefited greatly from the local teaching and learning environment.

1.4 Questions For Research

The following questions are created to help this study meet its goals.

1. How does a teacher’s attitude affect students’ academic performance?

2. How does parental behavior affect students’ academic performance?

What effects do a positive teaching and learning environment have on students’ academic performance?

4. How do students who are taught by highly effective teachers perform on average compared to students who are taught by ineffective teachers?

1.5 Restrictions Of The Study

Only five schools in the Odeda Local Government are included in the researcher’s analysis. This is due to the researcher’s conviction that whatever is happening here is also, in some capacity, taking place in the state governments of other states, particularly Ogun State.

The researcher kept track of all the challenges she faced while doing her investigation. Time constraints, financial setbacks, and the unwillingness of the despondent to cooperate with the researcher are a few of these barriers.
