The Effect Of Traditional Media And Communication On Rural Development Of Nigeria

Abstract

The study analyzes how traditional media and communication have affected rural development in Nigeria. despite the availability of numerous modern communication tools like the radio, internet, television, publications, etc. The best example of rural development is still the rural methods of communication. The following traditional forms of communication are among them: Age groupings, open markets, palm fronds, the town crier oja, ekwe, ikoro, smoke signals, etc.

However, in order to acquire information for the study, both primary and secondary data will be used. The primary data will be collected through questionnaires and oral interviews with rural residents with the assistance of the researcher, who will also assist the less educated individuals in filling out the boxes by explaining the questions. The secondary data will come from a review of documented materials.

Exact distribution of 382 questionnaires will be made to community members in Iwollo Oghe. We’ll tabulate the information we’ve gathered and use percentages to assess it.

The chi-Square method will be used to test each of the three proposed hypotheses.

The study’s results will demonstrate, among other things, that traditional communication channels are a vehicle for successful rural development. The study will also suggest using contemporary media in addition to peoples’ familiar conventional mediums of communication to foster participatory dialogue and further national development.
