The Influence Of Godfatherism In Nigeria Politics In The Fourth Republic

Chapter One

Preface

1. Background of the Study

The conception of godfatherism is forcefully establishing itself as a guiding principle in contemporary Nigeria politics. Godfathers are generally defined as men who have the power tête-à-tête to determine both who gets nominated to dispute choices and who wins in the election.

In the history, Nigerian society had smaller culprits that the judicial systems tried to contend with in recent times, our judicial systems can not contend with similar because Nigerian society is erecting culprits at rapid-fire pales in the late 20th and early 21st centuries through democratization and demilitarization practices, when the governing systems failed to deliver the other takes over. In republic one way that governance is breeding culprits is through godfather’s, godfatherims is old fashion enterprise that circulates around nation with different names or headlines for centuries. Godfathers in Nigeria is a content that has not been given enough attention until recent achievement that exposed Chief Chris Uba, disgruntled political Godfather of ChiefDr. Chris Ngige among political culprits that’s behind choices or selection of utmost of our state governors and other law makers. supposedly it appears maturity of our state governors are financed by similar quality of person and for those financed by their godfathers get into services now have huge power in separate countries. They assigned civil services and or political positions to who aren’t of the people but people of the privates.

The part of education in politics can not be over emphasized. To be effective, civil education must be realistic, it must address the central verity about political life. The American Political Science Association(A.P.S.A) lately formed a task force on Civil Education. Its statement of purpose calls for further realistic tutoring about the nature of political life and a better understanding of “ the complex rudiments of the art of the possible ”. TheA.P.S.A. reports faults being civil education because all too frequently it seems unfit to fight the belief that in politics, one either wins or loses, and to win; means getting everything at formerly, now. The sense that politics can always bring another chance to be heard to convert and maybe to gain part of what one wants, is lost, political education moment seems unfit to educate the civil engagement the slow case structure of first coalitions and also majorities can induce social change( Carter & Elshtan, 1997).

A communication of significance thus isn’t politics need not, indeed must not, be a zero, sum game. The idea that “ winner takes all ” has no place in a republic because if disasters lose all they will conclude out of the popular game. participating is essential in a popular society, the sharing of power, of coffers and of liabilities. Those chops and the will or necessary particularity of private and public characters are the products of a good civil election.
