THE MALE VOLENCE OF NIGERIAN MOVIES IN OUR CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY

ABSTRACT

In the study of society, the media is clearly considered as one of the agents of socialization. This indicates that the media has the power to influence people’s attitudes, personalities, lifestyles, and cultures in either a favorable or negative way. Most Nigerian films have grown or evolved from bad to worse in recent years, particularly those depicting sex, obscenity, and vulgarity. This is clearly malevolent since, because members of the audience of Nigerian movies are also members of society, and the media, particularly television, has the ability to influence an individual’s conduct, the bad impacts of these videos will have an indirect impact on society as a whole. As a result, the purpose of this study is to investigate the extent of the malevolence of Nigerian films in current culture by examining the type and substance of these films, as well as why audiences continue to patronize them despite their evil nature. The goal of this research is to discover the harmful consequences of Nigerian films in general, as well as how they affect society by portraying themselves as hostile. This can be accomplished by determining whether there is an over-emphasis of negative themes in Nigerian films, identifying the negative effects or drawbacks of watching these films, and determining how Nigerian films can affect society at large.
