The Prevalence Of Occupational Stress Among Secondary School Teachers

 

 

 

Abstract

 

Headliners play a vital part in performance of scholars in secondary seminaries. In numerous cases, this calls for high professional and societal demands, and prospects. As a result, headliners experience stress. Studies in countries like USA, Britain, Norway, India, Nigeria and Kenya have revealed that optimal stress among headliners enhances scholars ’ performance in public examinations while inordinate stress reduces scholars ’ performance. In Rachuonyo North and Homa Bay Sub counties, the mean scores for seminaries headed by womanish headliners from 2010 to 2014 were3.77 and4.20 independently compared to those headed by manly headliners whose mean scores were5.05 and5.67 for the same period. These performances were below those of Rachuonyo south Sub County which were4.67 for womanish headliners and5.20 for manly headliners for the same period. The performances of seminaries headed by womanish headliners ’ were lower than those headed by manly headliners. These studies have linked stress among headliners to scholars ’ performance. The purpose of this study was to establish factors impacting stress among public secondary academy womanish headliners in public secondary seminaries in Rachuonyo North and Homa Bay Sub counties, Kenya. This study established that womanish headliners in Rachuonyo North and Homa Bay Sub counties were passing moderate stress at a mean( M)3.37 and Standard divagation( SD)1.290 on a 5 – point scale. Stress factors reckoned for52.9 of womanish headliners stress situations. The factors that had loftiest influence on stress situations of womanish headliners were working terrain( M3.67, SD = 1.287), pursuit for excellence( M = 3.65, SD = 1.033), clashing demands from stakeholders( M = 3.68), SD = 1.156), lack of time to educate and attend to executive tasks( M = 3.373, SD = 1.122), workload( M = 3.54, SD = 1.260), query in job prospects( M = 3.97, SD = 1.166), undisciplined preceptors( M = 3.58, SD = 1.357) and staff deficit( M = 3.78, SD = 1.357).

The government of Kenya is concerned with the global docket of achieving education for all. The academic performance of scholars has come a great concern to stakeholders ofeducation.This has led the government to formulate and apply programs to ameliorate academic performance. Stress has also been set up to be a major contributing factor to academic performance.
