A REGRESSION ANALYSIS ON THE HOURS SPENT ON THE INTERNET AND TIME SPENT TO STUDY ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

Nigerians face a rapidly changing environment, and time spent on non-academic activities has a negative impact on academic performance. This survey looks into how much time students spend on the internet affects their academic performance. Students’ performance has consistently deteriorated over time. Many academics see this as a direct result of the government’s neglect of education; others believe students should bear a large portion of the blame. There is no doubt that spending time on the internet improves one’s intelligence and ultimately makes one more aware of what is going on around him/her, but doing so at the expense of one’s studies has done more harm than good in our society. According to Ezeife (2008), for students to be They are capable of doing well academically and have spent little or no time on the internet. However, according to Oluwatobi (2013), doing so may be detrimental to students’ academic performance. It is no longer news that Nigerian students have become so engrossed in the internet that they devote little or no time to their studies, contributing to the decline of education in Nigeria. In conclusion, this study may aid in the development of a conceptual framework for guiding efforts to improve academic performance in relation to time spent on the internet.
