In ancient societies, marriage of a youth in ancient society was corridor of the liabilities of his parents. The youthful man had no choices and no says. He accepted his woman his joy and thanks. In some cases, a woman was married for him at a time he could clearly not go to keep a woman all conservation was borne by the parents. According to Landis,H.P.( 1977) In the once marriage were a matter within the clan or within clan’s and its environs parents weren’t anxious to see their suns getting wedded to girls from distant places or other lines. Marriages arranged by parents on the base of family fellowship ties infrequently broke up in the history. Divorce in the ancient times was also veritably rate, because of penalties of proven infidelity and fear of offending elders of both families.

In Nigerian, there are four easily defined types of marriage we’ve the church or statutory marriage, court marriage is performed at the Muslim Mosque and marriages contracted according to the native laws and customs of any given ethnical group known as the traditional marriages. In 1979, according to Fumilayo Lavis, marriage was made for the purpose of having children so as to establish a family because marriage was ordained by God to serve this purpose, when these children are nearly born, they’re seen as God’s blessing and as a gift to their parents as they’re social and profitable means to their parents. The family this time needs a home to live in and feel secured, this home is a place where a family live and also a place where one secured love. It’s a place which give all individual need in order to fit into the society successfully. A home provides for good physical, internal, cerebral and spiritual development of the members. A home erected on love, collective understanding and good planning is suitable to met its pretensions and a home where love and understanding are lacking is bound to crack and in all direction, this, broken homes are homes or families where either the further or the mama has desisted to be member of similar home or family through divorce, dereliction to mention but a many. Divorce thus can be defined to be particular mischance for either of the partner ion any society but it’s a universal escape for the ineluctable pressure is marriage. Divorce as a matter of fact breaks the bonds, which formerly united two individual and their family. Marriage is a big step in life, in which a person plans as a career or indeed business, clearly you either fail or succeed. This bond dissolution can do as a result of redundant connubial practices by either of the mates, early marriage, a result where either of the consorts isn’t ripe enough for marriage before getting wedded. The ideal of the family is the proper parenting of children is a more important ideal of the family than the happiness of the parents. This is because the early of child life are the conformation of personality and these are the times that are spent substantially in association with parent’s siblings and the family. The home as the child’s immediate terrain forms the base for personality development, which accompanies the individual throughout life. As a result of divorce or broken home children fails to develop ties to one or many important person in the family and when these ties are disintegrated, children are tutored at academy bloodied in developing close relationship in majority. They feel more and carryover critically as a happy person and at the same time can not concentrate on anything tutored at academy. When a mama is out of a home, leaving the children under charity and mercy of step- mama , these children are prone to numerous problems similar as poor feeding, negligence not inspired to study or learn, conditions and affections, emotional disturbance( fear, instability) not inspired to study malnutrition, sickness and conditions, negligence, as similar they aren’t likely to perform up to anticipation at academy.

Statement Of Problem

numerous problem are associated with divorce or broken homes, which reflects on the performance of children in seminaries, some of these problem are; It has been observed that children from broken home suffer some other problemse.g.non-provision of some introductory musts like, apparel food, learning accoutrements etc. There’s increase in domestic work and redivision of ménage chores, which leaves the children with little or no time for their studies

Instability, step parent don’t show important love and affection to their step children. therefore, these children suffer from internal deceleration, personality enhancement and are always miserable. They show behavioral responses like lying, stealing, erecting and playing present in academy etc. In view of this, the experimenter is forced to wonder whetherextra-relationship and fiscal problem could lead to broken home, and if broken homes, are they causes of drop in the performance of children in seminaries. A close look at other turnout of secondary academy grandaunts reveals a lot of half cooked, half boiled and half motivate the experimenter fear that divorce may have negative effect on the academic performance of scholars.

Purpose Of Study

1. To examine the causes of broken homes.

2. To probe if broken homes affect child’s academic performance.

3. probe if broken homes parents plan the career of their children.

4. To give information on how a broken home child can ameliorate his career.

Exploration Questions

The present drop in the academic performance of scholars in our secondary academy call for immediate attention, the experimenter is eager to find out what exactly are the causes of this problem and the consequences on the children of similar marriage. The following question will be used for the study of these problems.

1. Does children from broken homes do better than children from unbroken homes academically?

2. Does scholars children who perform inadequately in academy are each from separated homes?

3. Does divorce affect the academic performance of scholars?

4. Are children scholars from broken homes seasonable to plan with their guarantors what course to pursue in life?

5. Does instability and unrolling stations of step parents of scholars of broken home lead them to steal love at academy?

Significance Of Study

It’s hoped that findings from this study will enrich programmes of tutoring social studies. The experimenter is interested in the study of effect of divorce on the performance of children in seminaries because whatever happens in the home has a bearing in the academic performance of children. It’s necessary to educate the youthful stars who are yet unattached about the problems and causes of divorce and their consequences on the children. It’ll also make youthful stars to ruin their parents. Findings from this study will prop children from parent who have being allowed divorce in the understanding of problem endured by their parents and give them assurance about their future.

This study will examine causes and effect of divorce and family association. It’ll also, probe if broken homes affect child’s academic performance. and probe if broken homes parents plan the career of their children. It’ll also, give information on how a broken home child can ameliorate his career. Hence it has been narrowed down to academic achievement of pupil from named secondary seminaries in Egor original government area of Edo state
