DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB BASED CRIME RECORD AND INFORMATION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

As the complexity and severity of crimes increase, new technology in Nigeria will be required to assist lawyers and criminologists in combating these trends. A computerized crime record would provide a solution to this problem. It is a software program designed to suit the information needs of every department inside the agency regarding crime records. The software is separated into four sections: criminal history, case history, cases, and tutorial.

Crime record provides information on any offence picked by the user; case record stores all necessary information on any case handled by the expert, case given already determined cases based on the user’s selection; tutorial teaches or explains specific things in crime record. The goal of developing this software is to create a computerized crime record system that will allow professionals and non-professionals to easily manage criminal cases.

CHAPITRE ONE

INTRODUCTION

It should come as no surprise, then, that technology maintains our restricted, but distinctively human skills. Until recently, the majority of these productivity tools were developed as aids to conduct manual labor or clerical work; nevertheless, the computer has grown to be widely acknowledged as an assistant who is particularly competent at well-defined, repetitive tasks. Now, researchers have created an altogether new type of computer program that functions as an assistant, capable of discovering sensible solutions to problems for which there may be no clear and fast “right” answers. At this point, one can say that a crime record is a computer system that uses extensive experience-base knowledge of a subject to provide intelligently in the same way that a human expert does. For example, imagine a machine that can listen to your medical problems with an expert diagnostician and even prescribe therapies to alleviate your disease.

In most cases, a computerized crime record system can determine the next step in resolving a situation. Computer software has typically employed an algorithmic or procedural approach to problem solving, i.e. a rigid step-by-step approach. However, in order for the program to function properly, all possible combinations of input and data values must be included. Manual case manipulation in state CID (i.e. Enugu state CID headquarters) involves two levels: data and code or control. However, this approach assumes that complex tasks necessitate complex codes, as well as the aid of new information.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM

During the project’s analysis and data collection, it was discovered that a manual method of storing and keeping information for future use on crime records existed at the state CID Enugu. That is to say, the process of everyday tasks and activities is done manually, which sadly causes work execution delays and affects output quality.

Manual crime record keeping has resulted in a number of deviations from the intended standard. Among the bottlenecks faced are:

Time wastage and long quarries as a result

File or document loss, partial or complete

Criminal investigation is being recorded.

Exposures of private information

Inefficiency of some staff workers owing to laziness in searching for files.

Because of these issues, the manual system of crime record system information storage, entry, and retrieval is extremely clumsy: inefficient and unbelievable.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

This book on crime record on computer was created to carry out the laborious work and tasks performed by humans, in which they frequently misplace and trash crucial files and case records. However, if this (computerized crime record) is installed, it will provide a solution to this case.

THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The system’s primary goals and objectives are as follows:

To create a web-based crime record and information system to replace some of the human function in circumstances of employment insecurity.

To provide quick access to an expert’s perspective

The major reason for developing this software is to create a computerized criminal record for both professionals and non-professionals.

ยท SCOPE

The scope of this project is confined to Enugu State CID’s crime records. Rape, arson, fire-outbreak, murder, stealing, armed robbery, and more crimes will be included in the project as time goes on.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

The researcher was unable to do the research at a high level due to time and budgetary restrictions. The respondents are unwilling to assist me with the precise facts required to compose this project task while it is in progress.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS DEFINED

Important and unnecessary phrases have been chosen and defined in order for the reader to fully comprehend the study.

Computer: An electrical device that accepts and stores data for future use as well as produces output from processing that is controlled by instructions stored in its memory unit.

The human computer interface, also known as user interface technology, allows individuals to interact with the system. The user describes the problem and the solution that was offered to him/her.

Knowledge Base: This is the most significant component of a record system since it contains professional problem-solving knowledge. It is the location where the expert’s knowledge is saved. To put it succinctly, it is the method via which a human expert’s knowledge is made available to the machine.

Inference Engine: This is the part of the program that reasons and determines how to apply the knowledge in the knowledge base to the facts and premises supplied at the user interface in order to deduce additional facts that are used to draw subsequent conclusions. The interface engine is an active component of an expert system since it guides the user through the knowledge base and advances the entire interaction.

Crime Records and Criminal procedures: Crime records and criminal procedures are concerned with wrongs done by people against society, for which guilty individuals must be punished. As a result, the goal of criminal proceedings is to ascertain the accused’s guilt or innocence, and if that person is determined to be guilty, the wrongdoer must be punished in order to protect society and rehabilitate the offender.
