CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Children with special needs demand particular attention and specialized needs that are not required of other children. This status may be declared in order to provide benefits and help for the child’s health and development. Special needs can also be legally given so that they can be cared for and trained in their communities. A unique mediational tax credit or deduction may be available to parents of special needs children to help offset the high costs and difficulties connected with child care and well-being. The term “Special Needs” is used to describe a wide range of ailments and disabilities, including chronic and fatal illnesses, physical disabilities, and psychiatric disorders. This situation raises the cost of attending and training special needs children, as well as giving the necessary help and medical care to improve their condition and improve their quality of life. The severity of a child’s health, such as those with a lifelong life-threatening ailment, may necessitate more costs and frequent medical attention throughout their lives. A special needs child may require various educational approaches that not only accommodate their problems but also try to provide opportunities for them to learn and develop further. The goal of the study is to determine the impact of parental stress on special needs children’s academic progress.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

For a child’s well-being and growth, the family’s financial situation and the quality of their relationship with their children are vitally important. Children with special needs require extra attention and support. The responsibilities of parenting, according to Small and Eastman (1991), as cited in (Alvy, 1987, p. 19), include providing basic resources, caring for the home, protecting children, guiding and supporting children’s physical and psychological development, and (e) advocating for the children in the wider community. However, parents must be aware that excessive levels of worry can have a harmful influence on children, leading to sadness or feelings of isolation, as well as affecting their academic performance.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The study’s main goal is to provide an assessment of the impact of parental stress on the academic progress of special needs children. The study’s particular goals are as follows:

1 Determine the nature of children with exceptional needs.

2 To see if parental stress has an impact on special needs children’s academic progress.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1 What are the characteristics of children with special needs?

2 What effect does parental stress have on special needs children’s academic achievement?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study examines the impact of parental stress on the academic progress of children with exceptional needs. As a result, the study will be a valuable source of information for stakeholders, allowing them to propose solutions that will address the problem in a unique way.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The study examines the impact of parental stress on the academic progress of children with exceptional needs.

LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The research was hampered by logistical and geographical constraints.
