1. Preface

Since the first reported case of HIV/ AIDS in 1981, the complaint has had a ruinous effect on all factors of our society and has come the most deadly contagious complaint epidemic in recent times. The complaint is seen as a trouble to the stability of entire nations and regions affecting the most productive members of the society. HIV/ AIDS has come a global miracle, still the complaint is most pronounced in developing countries particularlySub-Saharan Africa. The spread of the complaint has reached epidemic proportions in utmost corridor of the African mainland( Agyei- Mensah 2001).

The figures of people infected with HIV keeps on adding particularly among the youthful people. The estimated number of persons living with HIV worldwide in 2007 was33.3 million. African mainland alone had22.5 million of the world’s estimated33.3 million people living with HIV/ AIDS( UNSAID/ WHO 2007). UNAIDS estimates showed that youthful people under 25 reckoned for about 45 of all new HIV cases( over 6800 people come infected with HIV everyday) in grown-ups in 2007. The complaint continues to ruinSub-Saharan Africa and it remains the most serious of contagious complaint challenges in Africa. The leading cause of death inSub-Saharan Africa is HIV/ AIDS( Tanaka, Kunii, Hatano & Wakai 2007).

It’s true HIV/ AIDS continues to spread among the population of the devious pastoral communities in Ghana, with its heavy risk on the 15 – 49 time age groups, who constitute the economically productive sector of the country’s frugality. Elembelle community is one of the pastoral communities in the Western Region, Ghana which has seen increases in the spread of HIV/ AIDS. The quarter has one of the worst HIV/ AIDS frequence in Ghana. As at 2006 it had frequence rate of15.5 far advanced than the public normal of3.2 the same time. It’s important to state that these were reported cases at the hospitals and thus doesn’t represent real magnitude of the problem. The high HIV/ AIDS frequence is attributed to number of factors including high affluence of migratory fishers, booby-trapping workers, and stranded trippers at the lessee and ranch sloggers.(( Nzema East Municipal 2006).

Prevention supports of patron agencies and the government have been working assiduously to check the HIV/ AIDS epidemic but there has not been any considerable drop in the current rate within ellembele District. A critical question then is; what could have reckoned for this? frequence in 15- 19 times group shows an increase trend though sweats have been made to decelerate down the spread. manly adolescents are vulnerable and may be told into high- threat behaviours by artistic morals regarding alcohol use, plural or multiple mates and other aspects of social geste ( Ministry of Health 2001, 37). The gab between manly- womanish rates regarding the spread of the HIV/ AIDS in Ghana used to be wide but recent statistics suggests they’re in close balance( Ghana Health Service, 2004). Despite this, many data live on manly adolescent involvement in constricting and transmitting the contagion.

The end of this study was to probe the knowledge, comprehensions, and stations of manly adolescents towards HIV/ AIDS in order to launch meaningful preventative measures for the control of HIV/ AIDS in Elembelle community. The findings of this study can be added to the being body of knowledge on HIV/ AIDS in Ellembele District and in Ghana as a whole. The findings of this study will help policymakers and healthcare professionals to develop adolescent- centered, all- round and ferocious programs that will dock the spread of HIV in the quarter.
