Profitability Analysis Of Layer Enterprise

Abstract

This study examined the profitability of layers product in Esan North East and Ovia North EastL.G.A’s of Edo State. A intentional and accessible slice of 64 flesh growers was carried out in the study area in order to induce data for the analysis. Results of the study showed that the repliers were generally males( 56) with good educational background and fairly long husbandry experience in flesh product. Data collected were anatomized using Retrogression Models. The retrogression results indicated that the flesh growers were spending too important credit on fixed capital in product from day old to spent layers with a high probability that increase in eclectic expenditure and layers crush will increase the profit from the product. It was observed that enhancement in quality of layers crush, increase in effectiveness of labour and increase in KW/ h used in the product process will increase profit doable from the product of day-old sprats to point of lay. As shown from the retrogression results, increase in fixed cost and layers crush will be necessary to maximize profit in product from point of lay to spent layers. Viability analysis indicated that flesh business is profitable( average BCR = 1.52, average Return/ Naira = 0.55). It was shown from the relative analysis that product from day old sprats to spent layers was the most feasible( BCR of1.64, Return/ Naira = 0.67) from the three types of product. It was thus recommended that further people, particularly youth, should be advised to go into layers product, and that Government should dictate marketable banks to reserve a certain chance of the budget for the flesh growers at low interest rate.

Chapter One 1.0

Introduction

Background To The Study

The problems of food instability and hunger in recent times have continued to attract the attention of experts and Government worldwide( Babatunde etal., 2007).

FAO( 1995), asserted that the most critical in the global food handbasket heads is protein, especially of beast origin. still, Oluyemi and Roberts( 2000) and Isika etal.,( 2006), supposed that flesh was strategic in addressing beast protein deficit in mortal nutrition.

In Nigeria, the product of food has not increased at the rate that can meet the adding population. While food product increases at the rate of2.5, food demand increases at the rate of further than3.5 due to high rate of population growth of2.83( CBN, 2004).

Beast scientists, economists and policy makers are of the opinion that the development of beast( flesh) assiduity is the only option for bridging the generally known protein insufficiency gap in a Nigerian’s diet( Mbanassor and Nwosu, 1998). piecemeal from its donation to the Gross Domestic Product and provision of employment openings, flesh product( egg) is a major source of protein in the country( Ajibefun and Daramola, 1999).

Flesh product is predominant among beast product in Edo State. People depend on flesh for food and flesh husbandry serves as an fresh occupation to condense the income of small and borderline ranch families. Flesh occupies an essential position because of its vast eventuality to bring about rapid-fire profitable growth, particularly serving the weaker section( Ekunwe etal., 2006).

Egg is a rich source of protein, lipids, vitamins, phosphorus and other nutritionally important substances. Eggs are fluently digestible and they’re sources of raw accoutrements foragro-allied diligence that use them in the product of food, drinks, incinerating confectionary and in the propagation of contagions in vaccine product. either, egg marketing provides a source of income to those who engage in it.

Statement Of Problem

For Nigeria to attain food security, there’s the need for the development of all sectors of husbandry. There’s the need for significant advancements in the beast assiduity and flesh in particular. Events of the once decades indicate that the demand and force gap for beast protein input is so high( Yusuf and Malomo, 2007). Egg directors, like other directors are rational, therefore, they would increase their force if they’re sure of making advanced profit ceteris paribus( Emokaro etal., 2009). Advanced profit therefore ensures the sustainability of the assiduity.

The exploration is designed to address the following

Are flesh growers in the study area really making profit from their flesh egg product?

Can these growers actually dissect the cost and returns from their enterprise?

What are the major constraints faced by egg growers in the study area?

Do flesh growers in the study area keep up to date records of their enterprise?

Ideal Of The Study

The broad ideal of the study was to probe the profitability of flesh egg product in Esan North East and Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

To meet the general ideal, the study concentrated on the following specific objects

Examined the socio- profitable characteristics of egg directors in the study area.

Estimated the growers ’ current position of profit from egg product.

Estimated the viability of egg product in Esan North and Ovia North East Local Government Areas.

linked the constraints faced by flesh growers in the area of study.

Analysed the relationship between input used and volume of eggs produced by repliers.

Estimated the growers ’ current position of profit from day old sprats to point of lay product.

Hypothesis

Ho There’s no significant relationship between the socio- profitable characteristics of the repliers and the profitability from flesh product.

H1 There’s a significant relationship between the socio- profitable characteristics of the repliers and the profitability from flesh product.

Defense Of The Study

Although important work has been done in the area of profitability analyses, flesh egg product requires a nonstop exploration to meet the changing problems and constraints of the assiduity.

It’s hoped that the information handed by the study will guide prospective flesh enterprise and contribute to effective policy expression and perpetration as respects perfecting the business.
