THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A THREE PHASE AUTOMATIC PHASE SELECTOR

ABSTRACT

The main goal of designing and building this three phase automatic phase selector is to show how contactors can be used to switch between three lines or phases, such as “RED, YELLOW, AND THE BLUE PHASE,” without interfering with the contacts.

This type of phase selector can switch between phases by interlocking one phase to the other. Either one phase circuit is dependent on the other phase circuit, which means that two phases cannot be turned on at the same time.

This research paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter emphasizes the topic’s introduction, while the second chapter focuses on a review of related literature in relation to the design.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1            INTRODUCTION

In Nigeria today, power outages across phases are so common that some sensitive equipment and appliances become redundant; this could sometimes be the cause of one phase going out in relation to the other.

It may surprise you to learn that, in order to solve these problems, many unskilled electricity consumers have recently resorted to some crude methods of switching between phases to obtain power. So many souls have been lost as a result of this act. This is an unfavorable situation for consumers, and it is now necessary to design a device that can automatically select among the phases and make power supply available at the consumers’ terminal.
