The Effect Of Ethanol Extract Of Desmodium Velutinum Stem On Some Marker Enzyme In Liver Of Albino Rats

Abstract

Present examinations were carried out on the effect of ethanol excerpt of Desmodium velutinum stem on some liver enzymes of albino wistar rats fed with

high fat from cow ‟ s brain. Twelve healthy albino wistar rats were divided into four groups. Group I rats were fed with balanced diet( normal feed, that’s farmer ‟ s crush) and valve water. Group II rats were fed with fat diet( cow ‟ s brain)(3.6 g/ day) alone. Group III rats entered combined admixture of 70 fat diet( cow ‟ s brain) with 30 ethanol excerpt of Desmoduim elutinum stem(2.7 g/ day), Group IV rats were fed with fat diet( cow ‟ s brain) and were administered with a medicine atorvastatin( 5mg/ rat/ day). The rats were offered at the end of the experimental( two weeks) period. The factory excerpt was screened for its phytochemical ingredients, using standard procedures. Phytochemical webbing revealed the presence of tannins, flavonoids, saponins and alkaloids. The liver function tests was assessed by measuring the total bilirubin, total serum protein, direct and circular bilirubin and liver enzymes similar as Alanine amino transferase( ALT), Aspartate amino transferase( AST), Alkaline phosphate( peak), Gamma- glutamyl transferase( GGT) on the liver of the albino wistar rat. The serum, ALT, ALP, AST and bilirubin attention of the albino wistar rat increased significantly( P>0.05) compared to their total protein attention. The result attained indicate that the ethanol excerpt of Desmodium Velutinum stem retain hepatoprotective exertion on the adipose liver of albino wistar rat fed with fat from cow ‟ s brain. The studied factory showed variable quantum of phytochemicals including flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, tannins, terpenoid which were determined quantitatively using literature styles. The significant effect of the Desmodium velutinum stem ethanol excerpt was compared with standard medicine, atorvastatin. The result in the present study suggest that the ethanol excerpt of Desmodium velutinum stem can be used in treating liver conditions.

Chapter One

Preface

The liver is the largest and most complex internal organ in the body. It plays an important part in the conservation of internal terrain through its multiple and different functions. Liver is involved in several vital functions similar as metabolism, stashing and storehouse. Hepatitis or seditious complaint involves inflammation and change to the hepatocytes. Hepatitis is one of the most current conditions in the world. Every time 18,000 people had been reported to die due to liver cirrhosis caused by viral hepatitis( Wang etal., 2008). Ectopic fat storehouse occurs in rotundity, particularly in the liver leading to a condition nominated non alcoholic adipose liver complaint( NAFLD) characterized by varying degree of liver injury that progresses from steatosis to tratohepatitis, fibrosis and necrosis. Due to its prominent association with insulin resistance/ rotundity, NAFLD is regarded as the hepatic incarnation of metabolic pattern. Liver has great capacity to detoxicate poisonous substance and synthesizes useful principles. thus damage to liver foisted by hepatotoxic agents is of grave consequences. Experimental studies have reported that beast fed a high fat diet( HFD) for further than two months develop weight, hyperlipidemic, hyperglycemia, oxidative stress and insulin resistance( IR). either, consumption of a calorie-rich diet results in lipid accumulation, redundant product of seditious cytokines and macrophage infiltration that favours the

progression of liver complaint. numerous medicinal factory/ indigenous factory have been mentioned and well established as hepatoprotective agents.

Desmodium velutinum is a medicinal factory around the world. The excerpt of Desmodium velutinum showed significantanti-pyretic exertion on experimental rats used. Desmodium velutinum is veritably rich in alkaloids and affiliated amino composites. It’s a source of flavonoid, saponins and pharmacological active agent useful in the treatment of pangs and pains. It also showed that one of the uses is for erectile enhancing property. Desmodium velutinum being one of the important medicinal factory in the world may have effect on the liver. still limited studies are available on the effect of Desmodium velutinum treatment on hepatoprotective effect of its excerpt on high fat diet fed beast. In this regard, the present study was aimed to probe the effect of ethanol excerpt of Desmodium velutinum stem on liver function tests on albino wistar rats fed with high fat from cow ‟ s brain related to different hepatoprotective effect by comparing it to a known medicine, atorvastatin treatment which is used to lower the position of cholesterol in blood. Since changes in the attention and composition of tube lipid and lipoproteins do constantly in liver complaint, these findings may be useful in following the clinical course of case with liver conditions of colorful causes.

Liver complaint is associated with characteristic changes in the lipid composition of the face fleece of tube lipoprotein patches. Cholesterol accumulate as hepatic

stashing of lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase decreases, similar abnormal circulating lipoproteins tend to induce corresponding changes in cell membrane lipid composition. Studies in both mortal and experimental liver complaint confirm that this does do and that it’s wide- spread. Low viscosity lipoproteins, which are rich in cholesterol can also be taken up by the liver or extrahepatic apkins by a receptor intermediated endocytosis that especially recognizes apolipoproteins. It can be prognosticated that redundant hepatic membrane dysfunction might be a general point of severe liver complaint. It’s proposed that numerous of the cellular disturbances and metabolic abnormalities accompanying hepatic complaint result from, or are aggravated by lipoprotein convinced changes in membrane lipid composition and function. Hence Desmodium velutinum may be a source of a pharmacological active agent useful in the treatment of high position cholesterol in the blood which has got both liver guarding and nutritive value.
