The Problems And Prospects Of Revenue Generation In Nigerian Local Government System

 

Abstract

 

Original governments in Nigeria are faced with numerous difficulties in generating acceptable finance to perform their indigenous liabilities; similar problems are a cog in the wheel to the smooth handling of original government administration. These challenges include deceitfulness on the part of officer collecting the earnings similar as cases of printing bills by the officers. This development has hampered the operations of Njikoka original government area of Anambra state. This study thus examines problems and prospects of profit generation in Nigerian original government system, with focus on Njikoka original government area of Anambra state. The study is a qualitative descriptive analysis, while data collection was effected through the secondary sources. Systems proposition served as theoretical frame of

analysis. The findings reveal that despite external and internal sources of profit to Njikoka original government, corruption and poor governance, public cynicism, lack of good profit collectors and lack of fiscal autonomy undermine profit collection. It also demonstrates enlightenment and provocation of profit collectors are measures to enhance the prospects of profit collection in the original government. It thus recommends honest and believable leadership as a nostrum for profit faults in Njikoka original government
