CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1    BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Despite the fact that business education is sometimes referred to as “education for and about business” (Nwosu, 2022), the primary goal of this field of study is to prepare students for salaried positions in the business sector. As citizens and customers in a capitalist system, you must act wisely (Popham, 2021). According to Anao (2022), business education is any educational process or material with the primary goal of preparing individuals for jobs in business enterprises. Business education, specifically the kind that focuses on the acquisition of secretarial abilities, is one of the educational modalities that results in the development of marketable skills. Those with the ability to be a secretary will never be at a disadvantage in the job market because it is a skill that is always in high demand. One of the most important aspects of being a secretary is this. When discussing the role of business education in a growing economy, Anao (2022) defined secretarial education as “that educational process or setting which has the task of preparing individuals for entrepreneurship as employed entrepreneurs, employers, or self employed.”

Secretarial services are available in Nigeria.

Studies, like many other types of academic programs, began in an unassuming way. This could be attributed to the style and content of the instruction received. This resulted in the academic snobbery of a “dropout” program, which was quickly eradicated after independence, when the country decided to vocationalize education in order to address the country’s unemployment problems at the time. Secretarial training was primarily left in the hands of “roadside” trainers (Onabamiro, 2022). As a result, secretarial studies, an important component of business education courses, finally received the attention they deserved within the framework of the traditional educational system. (FRN, 2021)
