Abstract

This study examined critically estimate pupil’s perception on online enrollment in Sokoto State University. In order to realize the ideal of the work, some exploration questions with corresponding suppositions were formulated. A aggregate of 101 scholars in the Department of Computer wisdom, Guidance and Counselling were used from a population of 134 to take part in the study through a intentional slice fashion. A questionnaire was used for data collection; and data generated were analysed using the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. All the suppositions were rejected. The recrimination was that online enrollment has a strong positive relationship with face- to- face commerce of scholars with faculty members, scholars ’ accession of ICT knowledge, fresh cost, and the reduction of time. Grounded on the findings, the experimenter recommended among others that all scholars of the University of SOS should be well equipped.

At the morning of each semester pupil in advanced institutions are anticipated to renew their studentship after satisfying the condition to do so. This involves choosing course they’re going to offer in the Semester and collecting the class admit card for with what’s called enrollments of courses. Firstly this was done by filling in some forms, now it’s done filling the form in the internet hence online.

Online enrollment system allows scholars through the internet to register, drop, or add courses within the enrollment period. It has an inbuilt Advisor to advice the scholars on approving rejecting requested courses by the pupil or recommending some others. still, when the enrollment period is over, all preliminarily registered courses by the scholars will be visible in the system. The scholars may or may not have previous experience using each system. immaculately, any pupil can go to the system to do the following

1. Register, add or drop course/ courses during the enrollment period.

2. Pay enrollment freights online through a secured web access.

The pupil also obtains the login information( username and word). This is the same for the evaluation and general systems, and it’s integrated with them i.e.However, the online word will be changed latterly and vice versa, if the word is changed for any of these systems.

There are terms and conditions of using the online enrollment systems. The pupil may use the system to register if the ensuing conditions are fulfilled the enrollment is done during the enrollment schedule, drop and add period as published by admission and enrollment doyen.

During this period the pupil should have registered all courses as outlined in his/ her study plan and shouldn’t have had any exceptions during his/ her study period, the scholars ’ status isn’t suspended, banned, cancelled, or rusticated. In case of any problem the pupil and the academic counsel will entered the mystic system as long as the pupil is regular financially and the applicable courses have been passed. The counsel may use the mystic system to complete the register of the remaining courses.

It’s unfortunate that in malignancy of these advantages, utmost pupil and experimenter still see this system as ineffective.

Allen.U. & Seaman,S.( 2010) stated that online enrollment lacks quality and credibility as it denies the scholars the face- to- face commerce with the faculty members which the old system allowed.

Background Of The Exploration Study

The poly technic of sokoto state was established by the sokoto state Government vides lawNo. 2 of 2002. It could be recalled that the former sokoto state established polytechnics at Birnin- kebbi and Talata Mafara wich were lost to present Kebbi and Zamfara States in 1991 and 1996 independently.

Consiquently, the present government with its determination to hoist the standard of education in the state intermingled the former Haliru Binji College of trades and wisdom and sani Abacha College of Administration and upgraded them to the status of polytechnic of sokoto state with Dr Abubakar Dikko as colonist Rector of the institution and lateAlh.Abubakar Zaki Tambuwal as the first president Governing Council of theinstitution.Thepolytechnic took off in july, 2001 with the following Colleges.

The Polytechnic took off in July 2002 and is functional in two premises with the following Colleges

1. College of Science and Technology

2. College of Engineering

3. College of Administrative and Business Studies

4. College of trades and Humanities

5. College of Basic and Preliminary Studies

6. College of Environmental Studies

Statement Of Research Problem

mortal commerce is one of the characteristics of the former system of enrollment which is done manually and face- to- face. Studies have revealed that in the old system of face- to- face enrollment , scholars have the occasion of asking questions and making enquiries on the enrollment governance, utmost of the system drivers don’t know anything about the University system or process Stein,B.( 2009).

So, the experimenter choose to make a check and evaluation of the state of online enrollment among the scholars of SOS Sokoto State, which at the end this exploration work a conclusion on the perception will be drawn.
