Knowledge, Accessibility And Use Of Information Communication Technology (Ict) Among Students And Teachers

 

Abstract

People over time, have cooked colorful ways for communicating their studies, requirements and solicitations to others in every aspect of life. The emergence of ICT has affected all aspects of mortal life, including education at all situations. ICT knowledge, availability and use are linked with advanced effectiveness and advanced productivity. Undergraduate nursing scholars and their preceptors enthrall a central position in both educational and health care systems of any country. This study was carried out to probe the knowledge, availability and use of ICT among scholars and preceptors in the Department of Nursing lores, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. A descriptive cross sectional check design was used. All the 454 undergraduate scholars in the Department of Nursing and 23 preceptors comprised the subjects for the study. A experimenter- developed questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Data were subordinated to descriptive statistics and anayzed using pupil’s t- test and ki forecourt. Probability value lower than0.05 was considered statistically significant. maturity of the scholars 346(80.5) and maturity of the preceptors 20(90.9) had knowledge of ICT. Repliers had access to the following ICT computer; scholars 314(73.0), preceptors 20(90.9), Internet; scholars 343(79.8), preceptors 22( 100) ande-mail; scholars 248(57.7) and preceptors 17(77.3). The Internet conditioning substantially performed by the scholars were browsing 386(89.8), drooling with musketeers 274(63.7) ande-mailing 262(60.9). The Internet conditioning substantially performed by preceptors were browsing 22( 100),e-mailing 20(90.9) and downloading papers 18(81.8). Google is the most common hunt machine used by scholars 393(91.4) and preceptors 20(90.9). High cost of ICT 281(62.2) and irregular power force 258(57.1) were major factors that affect availability to and use of ICT negatively. There was no significant difference( p>0.05) in the access to ICT types among preceptors and scholars. There was no significant difference( p>0.05) in the constraints associated with ICT use among scholars and preceptors. There was significant difference( p<0.05) in the use of ICT between scholars and preceptors. Findings of this study revealed that there’s still need to give ICT accoutrements and training at subsidized rate in order to encourage use in university education.

In early cultivated times, people achieved acceptable communication through speech and written dispatches. Communication in tutoring and literacy situation were substantially done using a schoolteacher- centered education system in the once many times( Adeyinka, Adedeji, Majekodunmi, Adika & Adeyinka, 2011) when the conventional way of tutoring was the order of the day. The schoolteacher was seen as the sole source of knowledge and the scholars were “ bare rec eipients ” of his/ her information. Chalk and talk styles were used in delivering lectures to scholars and pupils in seminaries.

The emergence of information communication technology( ICT) has affected all aspects of life( Nadira, Kamal & Banu, 2010). ICT has come an necessary part of our contemporary world. No wonder the use of similar terms ase-nursing,e-commerce,e-banking,e-medicine,e-government,e-learning ande-education just to mention but a many, to show how similar aspects of life revolve round technology. ICT accoutrements are acclimated to carry out some routine conditioning in nearly every aspect of life.

ICT includes any outfit or interconnect system of outfit that’s used in the automatic accession, storehouse, manipulation, operation, movement, control, display, switching, cloverleaf, transmission or event of data or information coffers( National Information Technology Policy, 2010).
