Abstract

This study examines the effect of foreign pictures as it affects the artistic heritage of Nigerian society. important after the independence among African mainland. One of the majorpre-occupation that African leaders has to contend with the restoration of African Culture in their unstained form which was defiled by European masters during their reign.

Unfortunately, the intelligence and life of African has been affected by exposure to foreign pictures.

The same goes to Nigerian Society which is where the study is concentrated. The study thus focuses on the pupil in The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa.

The study also concluded by defining a way forward towards the restoration and creation of African Culture.

Foreign pictures are pictures imported from other countries for entertainment purposes. Foreign pictures have proven to be most popular brand of pictures in Nigeria. pictures from countries like the United States of America, India, Mexico and Korea dominate the Nigerian movie assiduity popularly known as Hollywood

The situation has gotten so bad that Nigerian actors and actressesre-act foreign pictures. A good illustration of this is “ road girls ” featuring Queen Latifah and Viviane fox was latterly acted by Nigerian popular actress Fathia Balogun among others. And it has proven that whatever affects the culture.

Considerations about the goods of flicks, the foremost coordinated social scientific exploration or disquisition into the impact of these goods began in the western countries. It was intended at studying the dangerous impacts of film on societies. The development of the medium as a common mass entertainment and information source during the 1950s encountered analogous enterprises about implicit damages, especially in connection with youthful cult( Gunter, 1994). currently, numerous enterprises have been raised about the kind of values and stations that may be inculcated by exposure to certain kinds of media contents, especially enculturation and violence in pictures( Kubey and Larson, 2005).

The most important concern in the debate about violent flicks has been whether or not it promotes aggressive geste among observers most especially the youthful bones ( Evra 1990). Experimenters have also shown that heavy exposure to screen violence can beget problems in others disciplines of social geste . For illustration, it can make people come both fearful of the world around them and accepting violence in the real life as displayed by others( Ibid). Violence is one of the global enterprises moment in all parts of the world. asocial geste in mortal beings is accepted to be associated to a number of physiological, cerebral domestic and artistic aspects.

The literacy surroundings which a child is exposed to are also assumed to contribute to an increase in aggressive behaviours and station as well as his inclinations to customs values and morals of the society( Berkowitz, 2001).
