Preface

Background Of The Study

Rituals are a point of all known mortal societies. They include not only the deification solemnities and sacraments of organized persuasions and religions, but also solemnities of passage, atonement and sanctification solemnities, pledges of constancy, fidelity observances, coronations and presidential installations, marriages and sepultures and numerous other ritualistic events. Ritual features are the bedrock of African culture and religion. Religion is an integral part of African traditional life which constitutes the bedrock of maturity of the themes and stories of the earlier film products( Dipio, 2007). The ritual faith and religion in African traditional deification is therefore deeply bedded in nearly every socio-religious rituals. It enhances their identity as a people and offers suggestions to understanding their cosmological frame and allowed patterns. Since Africans believe that God is a advanced spiritual force that’s involved in their affairs as a community and individualities, they reach out to him through other gods and minor divinities like Sango the god of thunder; Ogun, the god of Iron; Ala the earth goddess; Ajoku, the yam god; Osun, the swash goddess and several others. still, on the individual position, there’s always a particular or family god who’s considered to wade off evil and bring goodluck to individualities and families. This understanding constantly gets represented in maturity of Nollywood flicks, especially in rituals and symbolically conveys the notion of faith in God and the gods, not only in the traditional setting, but also in ultramodern day African society. African traditional religion encompasses beliefs in a supreme God, other gods, ancestors, collaborative rituals, particular rituals and recognizes the actuality of necromancy, magic and witchery, sacred specialists and other spiritual forces( Alawode and Fatonji, 2013).

Adagbada( 2014) stated that “ ritual as a religious is a form which involves communication with some external forces. It embodies a belief/ beliefs and it’s done with soberness and solemnity ”. Alawode and Fatonji( 2013) described ritual as a place where people integrate short- term realistic pretensions and the longer- range legendary values of a culture, where they can replace particular disaffection with an protestation of particular identity.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Every society across the globe has its peculiar problems and challenges. Nigeria isn’t an exception. As a developing country, she faces her own share of social, political, profitable and artistic problems which has in no small measure affected the well- being of the crowd. similar problems persecuting the country include youth ‟ s severance and the rising surge of crime, which have serious counteraccusations for public development.

The population of youth in Nigeria is about46.4 million especially between the age group of 15- 39 times( National Bureau of Statistics( NBS) Abuja. 2017). As the overall population of the youth is growing, government should give jobs and other impulses to bulging jobless graduates and youths. Unfortunately, severance situation in Nigeria, especially the youth has been on the increase since medial 1980s when the frugality started witnessing a down- turn. Although, severance is a global miracle but the rate varies across different countries depending on the size and capacity of the frugality to give jobs for its citizens.

Severance rate in Nigeria has continued to be on the increase despite the abundant mortal and natural coffers available in the country. habitual youth ‟ s severance is apparent in Nigeria. Every time, thousands of graduates are produced but there are no jobs for maturity of them. Nigerian thoroughfares are littered with youth peddlers who naturally would have set up economic employment in some enterprise( Okafor, 2011). The large number of youths who are jobless is able of undermining popular practice as they constitute a serious trouble if engaged by the political class for covert and felonious conditioning( Okafor, 2011).

According to the National Bureau of Statistics( 2009), the public severance rates for Nigeria between 2000 and 2011 showed that the number of jobless persons constituted31.1 in 2000 and reduced to 11- 9 in 2005. Again, it rose to23.9 in 2011 and29.5 in 2012. It has been projected by NBS that severance rate will rise above 35 in 2013 and 2014 independently. The same statistics showed that on the normal, youth severance rate in Nigeria was46.5 in 2012( BLG, 2012). The high rate of crime in Nigeria moment has been criticized in numerous diggings on severance, especially of the youth. Research findings suggest also that the jobless youth are disproportionally more likely to be perpetrators as well as victims of crime and violence( Okafor, 2011). The growing gap between the rich and the poor affects the society through increased violence similar as ritualism. Youths due to the influence of severance currently want to get rich as snappily as possible therefore resorting to hijacking .
