CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Leadership is a person’s behavior when he is in charge of directing the actions of a group toward a common goal. It entails leading by example for others to follow. Leadership behavior, according to Hemphil and Loons (1955), is defined as the behavior of those who are technically members of a group. When leading others, it is essential to ship according to the needs of those being led. Depending on their needs, goals, and attitude, they may be directed toward the organization’s goal. When dread and fear appear around the corner, a successful leader inspires those around him or her with confidence. The leadership behavior of primary and secondary school principals is an essential tool for good administration, as it aids in the projection and evaluation of students. In schools, learning is promoted. Effective leaders in schools are more likely to achieve their educational goals and objectives, one of which is to develop and expand human knowledge capacity in the process of doing things (Hemphil and Loons, 1955). To lead is to direct someone in a specific direction, course of action, or other similar activity. Corbalhy published a paper on this subject in 1975. A leader’s goal is to instill good leadership behavior in his or her subordinates. To do so, he or she must first earn genuine respect for his or her own leadership abilities, and his or her leadership must then be based on functions rather than solely on his or her position in the organization.
