Abstract

Because radio can present health issues in a variety of ways, it is one of the best ways to spread information throughout society. For this reason, this study looks at how family planning radio programs affect young couples in Osogbo city to determine whether or not they affect how they plan to have children in the future. In this study, a survey research methodology was used in conjunction with 200 questionnaires, which were given to the chosen couples in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state in southwest Nigeria, and of which 192 were returned for analysis. The findings indicate that through the use of special programs created and dedicated to achieving such a goal, mass media, particularly radio and television, played crucial roles in creating, informing, educating, and sensitizing couples on child spacing, family planning, maternal mortality, and infant mortality, among other topics. It was clear that (Ifeto-Somo bibi) child-spacing or family planning lowers family stress, supports healthy children and mothers, and ensures a safe standard of living. Similar to this, a higher percentage of couples want to space their children out by two years. In order to lower infant and child mortality and improve maternal health, it is advised to wait at least 2-3 years between pregnancies.
