The Effect Of Migration On Family Ties (A Case Study Of Aguleri, Anambra State)

Chapter One

Preface

Background Of The Study

Migration may be described as the movement of individualities from one position to another, and the length of time spent in the new position can be either temporary or endless, depending on the provocations of the settlers. The drive and pull factor may be used to define the need of individualities migrating( Démurger, 2015). The term” pull factor” refers to a known magnet in a destination country that drives an individual to leave his or her home country, while the term” drive factor” refers to a forceful reason why an individual leaves his or her country of origin due to colorful reasons similar as a terrorist attack, disaster, or shortage. Migration may take place either inside a country or between countries.” Internal Migration” refers to the movement of people inside the natural limits of a given country, while” International Migration” refers to the movement of people from one country to another over transnational boundaries( Mohammed 2016). The country of Nigeria will serve as our case study as we probe the goods that transnational migration has had on the families that have been left before, specifically whether those goods have been salutary or mischievous. It was reported in 2005 that Nigeria had a population growth rate of 132 million, and it’s a nation in Africa that has a high population. The population tale was carried out in 2005( Mberu 2005). As a result of this population growth rate’s continued ascent, there has been an unknown supplement in the number of people entering the labor request, and the frugality simply can not keep up with the expanding mortal population. This has a negative migration on the lives of a great number of people, which eventually results in these individualities migrating in order to make a better livelihood and be suitable to give for themselves and any families they’ve to leave before. According to Démurger( 2015), the migrating of a member of the family may have either a salutary or a mischievous impact on those who are left before, depending on the circumstances that compass the person.( Citation demanded) The migration of one member of a family is an added advantage because it brings an fresh income to the family, which helps palliate poverty, helps in erecting investments and creating structure, helps support in ménage consumption, improves healthcare for parents left behind who may be sick, and can also play a part in furnishing children with an education in developing countries like Nigeria. also, the cerebral bouleversement that may do in the lives of children who are left behind when one parent migrates might be attributed to the migrating of another familymember. However, because the child’s absence from the home may beget the child to come oppressively withdrawn and may have a negative impact on the academic performance of the child, which may affect in the child dropping out of academy if the situation isn’t duly covered, if the emigrant was the primary caregiver for the child.

Statement Of The Problem

In the pastoral areas of Nigeria, where husbandry is the primary source of income for the maturity of the population, the migration of a member of the family who’s economically successful and active can place a significant burden on the members of the family who remain behind because they must now compensate for the loss of employment. This will beget them to spend further time on chores that originally needed a shorter quantum of time to fix and complete( Démurger, 2015). Migration may take place either inside a country or between countries.” Internal Migration” refers to the movement of people inside the natural limits of a given country, while” International Migration” refers to the movement of people from one country to another over transnational boundaries( Mohammed 2016). This exploration will place a significant emphasis on the direct impact that migration has on the families of settlers, including the children, consorts, and parents who remain before.

Limitation Of The Study

Like in every mortal bid, the experimenter encountered slight constraints while carrying out the study. inadequate finances tend to stymie the effectiveness of the experimenter in sourcing for the applicable accoutrements , literature, or information and in the process of data collection, which is why the experimenter resorted to a limited choice of sample size. More so, the experimenter contemporaneously engaged in this study with other academic work. As a result, the quantum of time spent on exploration will be reduced.

also, the case study system employed in the study posed some challenges to the investigator including the possibility of impulses and poor judgment of issues. still, the investigator reckoned on respect for the general principles of procedures, justice, fairness, neutrality in observation and recording, and importing of substantiation to overcome the challenges.
