The Effect Of Migration On Nation-building In Nigeria

Chapter One

Preface

Background of the study

In Nigeria, it has turned into a point of pride for families to have at least one member of their family working or studying outside of the borders of the nation. The image that pops into one’s head incontinently is one of wealth and unrestricted occasion for other members of the family or the extended family to profit from the success of the first existent( Akinsanmi, 2017). Given the fact that the” member overseas” would shoot some foreign cash home, eventually come established, and be suitable to partake knowledge that may help others pierce the same occasion, this would feel to be a natural conclusion toreach. However, also it’s indeed more reasonable to have such an anticipation of them, If the person in question happens to be located in a advanced country in Europe or the United States of America. This is due to the fact that similar countries give a advanced standard of living as well as a better quality of life for all members of the society( Nwajiuba, 2022). Because such an atmosphere and similar life prospects aren’t fluently accessible to all people in Nigeria, the driving force behind the desire to see a” better life,” spread the joy, and partake the goods is to see a” better life,” spread the joy, and partake the delicacies. But where does it indeed begin? And where exactly does it get its launch? The unstable nature of the society lends validity to the idea that for numerous, migration is the only window through which they may increase their income, have possibilities for education, and enhance the prospects for their coming generation. As a consequence of this, individualities dislocate both inside the country and across transnational boundaries in the stopgap that they would have access to lesser possibilities in the region to which they’re moving in order to profit not just themselves but also their immediate families and communities( Okorie, 2019). Migration frequently begins with a shift from one region of a nation to another, similar as from a village to a vill, and also continues with a transfer from a vill to a city. This movement pattern is distinctive of migration and is generally how it begins. One transfers to a new position because they believe it’ll give them with lesser chances( Olajide, 2020). There are a number of rudiments, both pushing and pulling, that are responsible for this, but some of the causes may be unique to the person, similar as the artistic stigmatization. Nigeria, the most vibrant country in Africa, has a population of further than 200 million people and continues to witness high internal and external migration due to the size of her population, her harsh profitable climate, pervious borders, and other factors( Olajide, 2020). Despite this, Nigeria is the most vibrant country in Africa. Nearly 70 percent of Nigeria’s population lives in poverty, making it one of the world’s poorest countries. Corruption is another problem anguishing the country( Olajide, 2020). Every time, millions of people in Nigeria leave the country in hunt of a better quality of life as a result of limited work possibilities, wide corruption, and extreme poverty. phony of passports, visas, fake shelter claims, phony marriages under false pretenses, people smuggling, mortal trafficking, and a number of other outlets are primarily to condemn for the rapid-fire rise in illegal migration, which is also backed to a significant extent by the phony of visas and passports( Castles, 2017).

also, the rate of migration within Nigeria is adding at an intimidating pace since there has been a significant rate of movement across countries by youthful males of working age who are looking for better prospects and greener ranges. The growth in undocumented migration has had a significant negative impact on the process of nation structure in Nigeria( Egbe, 2022). This is due to the fact that the maturity of undocumented settlers in Nigeria are youthful people between the periods of 18 and 35, which is the most productive age range in a person’s life, and this miracle is substantially driven by profitable impulses( Durand, 2016). The high rates of migration among these orders are primarily caused by a combination of numerous causes, the most important of which are the high severance rate among youthful people(61.1 percent) and the growing cost of living( David, 2021). thus, the study seeks to examine the effect of migration on nation- structure in Nigeria.

Statement of the problem

Migration has been going on since the morning of mortal society. People have always dislocated from one place to another in hunt of lesser possibilities. This geste is nothing new. Although numerous incidents of migration are voluntary, others, similar as trip as a result of wars, conflicts, natural disasters, or profitable difficulty, are exemplifications of circumstances in which migration is involuntary( de Haan, 2017). In recent times, there has been a rise in the quantum of academic attention given to the content of migration. There’s growing solicitude over the counteraccusations that profitable migration, particularly forced migration, may have on Nigeria and other African nations. Indeed if there’s a dearth of information about migration from pastoral to civic areas throughout the mainland, the impacts of this trend can be seen far and wide( Docquier, 2022). Importantly, the agrarian structure of African civilization has amplified the goods that enormous migrations of suitable- bodied males have had on food adequacy and indeed on the capability of the country to contribute to the creation of the nation. Hence, the need for the experimenter to look into effect of migration on nation- structure in Nigeria.

Ideal Of The Study

The general ideal of the study is to examine effect of migration on nation- structure in Nigeria. The specific objects is as follows

To find out the factors responsible for migration in Nigeria.

ii. To examine whether migration has an effect on nation structure in Nigeria.

iii. To probe the benefits of migration to the family and the nation as a whole.

iv. To assess the Consequences of migration in Nigeria.

Exploration Questions

The following questions have been prepared for the study

i. What are the factors responsible for migration in Nigeria?

ii. Does migration have an effect on nation structure in Nigeria?

iii. What are the benefits of migration to the family and nation as a whole?

iv. What are the Consequences of migration in Nigeria?

Significance of the study

This study is significant to the Nigerian government as it’ll expose them to the high rate of severance in the country which in turn makes youth emigrate from Nigeria to other countries. The findings of the study will supplicate government to produce an enabling terrain where business can thrive, and also produce employment occasion so that Nigeria won’t be lacking for the suitable bodied men and women that should contribute to nation structure.

The study will be significant to the academic community as it’ll contribute to the being literature.

Compass Of The Study

The study will find out the factors responsible for migration in Nigeria. The study will also examine whether migration has an effect on nation structure in Nigeria. The study will further probe the benefits of migration to the family and the nation as a whole. Incipiently, the study will assess the Consequences of migration in Nigeria. Hence, this study will be demarcated to Nigerian immigration service.

Limitation of the study

Like in every mortal bid, the experimenters encountered slight constraints while carrying out the study. inadequate finances tend to stymie the effectiveness of the experimenter in sourcing for the applicable accoutrements , literature, or information and in the process of data collection( internet, questionnaire, and interview), which is why the experimenter resorted to a moderate choice of sample size. More so, the experimenter will contemporaneously engage in this study with other academic work. As a result, the quantum of time spent on exploration will be reduced.
