Introduction

1.1 The Study’s Background

Environmental factors have been found to have a significant impact on pupils’ academic achievement throughout the course of the year. If the classroom is uncomfortable, it makes the students unhappy and causes mental strain, which affects the mood, performance, and productivity, which also has a negative impact on the institutions. The provision of adequate physical learning environments, such as light, ventilation, flooring, and noise reduction devices, has a significant impact on how well students perform. Utilizing the windows, door, and skylight effectively will hurt your eyes.

According to Nwosu (1996), care must be given to the following office conditions in order to increase performance and productivity: lighting, cleanliness, and management rules that treat employees fairly, especially secretaries. The availability of these resources in classrooms will improve students’ performance.

The social learning environment’s characteristics played a significant role in how well students performed. Good human relations are based on the biblical maxim known as the “golden rule,” which states to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This is according to Azuka and Agomuo (1993). Students will perform better in a setting where there is good human interaction between the lecturers and the students, but when this is lacking, it will make students feel horrible and demoralized, which will negatively impact their performance.

The amount of tangible learning tools available has a significant impact on how well students achieve. Since the function of a secretary has changed from shorthand writing and document typist to manager and administrator in current times. Computers, according to Biglon and Holmes (1992), are made to allow secretaries to quickly create, manipulate, and produce text. As a result of the advancement in computer technology, the secretarial profession has undergone a revolution, claim Ohakwe, Idih, and Chukwumezie (2002). This is a subset of the larger area of information processing, which involves receiving information, processing it, and then delivering it to the appropriate person at the appropriate moment so that they can use it to make a decision. Every student, not just secretarial students, have faced significant challenges as a result of the introduction of computers in some institutions, particularly at the federal polytechnic in Nekede, Owerri.

Particularly, the administration of the school has a significant impact in the learning outcomes of secretarial students by ensuring that the academic calendar is convenient for students and that they have access to sufficient learning resources to support their performance. In order to provide sufficient and appropriate learning materials, the administration should know the precise number of pupils who will be admitted. if there weren’t enough learning materials and there were too many students in the class. Their performance will be impacted.

But it has been seen that certain instructors are not being replaced when they should be. Human resources should be taken into account when creating the schedule for the lectures since they reach a point of saturation when too many lecturers are scheduled at once. There is no doubt that the children will never understand, and this will affect how well they perform.

1.2 Definition of the Issue

A careful examination of a particular classroom or learning environment where secretarial students at Federal Polytechnic Nekede study reveals numerous issues and shortcomings that contribute to their poor performance.

The rate at which our learning environment is degrading is really concerning. This has grown to be a significant issue for the institution’s administration, staff, and students. It has been observed that the majority of secretarial students study in settings that lack essential comforts and amenities including sufficient lighting, proper ventilation, comfortable furniture, strong human relations, and effective leadership. These identity issues make up the physical, social, and management challenges as well as the learning environment for students, which, if not adequately addressed, has an impact on secretarial students’ performance.

Therefore, the study’s challenge is to gather empirical data and catalogue the effects of the environment on the performance of the secretarial students.

1.3 Study’s Objectives

Finding the impact of the study environment on secretarial students’ performance was the main goal of this study. It specifically aims to:

Describe the physical learning environment that Nekede Owerri, a secretarial student at the federal polytechnic, studies in.

1. List the educational resources available to students at the federal polytechnic in Nekede, Owerri, and how these affect their studies.

2. Describe the consequences of the learning resources’ physical components on the pupils.

3. Describe the management of the school and how the kids are taught.

4. Identify the human resources for learning and their impact on student achievement.

1.4 Research Problem

1) How much would the physical learning environment impact a secretarial student’s performance?

2) In what physical learning environments do secretarial students in federal physical Nekede Owerri perform differently?

3) How may the performance of secretarial students be impacted by the availability of material resources for learning?

4) How could the administration of the school enhance the learning of the secretarial students?

5) How much will the use of human resources for learning affect how well secretarial students performed?

1.5 Importance of this research

This research is meant to act as a manual for managing the department of student affairs and outlining the unique requirements for secretarial students’ successful performance.

The performance of secretarial students will also need to increase, which will ultimately result in improved morale and productivity. It is also meant to provide as a resource for scholars looking at the impact a positive environment and lifestyle have on secretarial students’ performance. The fact that secretaries keep them in the library for consultation will be very significant to students at all academic levels as well as to other academicians who may do research on this particular issue in the future.

Additionally, it will contribute to existing ideas or theories on how students are motivated to learn in general and the conditions under which they do so in particular.

1.6 Study’s purview

Although there are several issues that face secretarial students, the focus of this study is on how the learning environment affects secretarial performance at federal polytechnic Nekede Owerri.
